Stalking can be described when someone becomes obsessed with another person. The stalker could happen to be a ex-coworker, a neighbor or a stranger, there are eight traits that can help identify a stalker. There are lots of reasons why a person might become a stalker, two of the main ones being because a stalker wants to upgrade their status of because they have a mental disorder.
“Stalkers often suffer from low self-esteem and feel they must have a relationship with a victim in order to have any self worth” ( Snow 25). Not all but a vast majority of stalkers are lonely people and usually keep to themselves and don’t socialize. In normal society people don’t get involve with others that are isolated from everybody. This lack of self-esteem and the believe that no one cares for what stalkers do is why sometimes they have “lack of embarrassment”(Snow 24) of the things they do to get information about the victims.
Stalkers are so into their own world they “don’t feel embarrassment”(24) because they know some how the actions they do will eventually get them to the victims. “Normal individuals would be extraordinarily embarrassed to be caught following other people, going through their trash, leaving obscene notes and other inappropriate behavior”(24). Stalkers have their own rules; they don’t care about society’s rules so they do what seems correct in their world. Also his idea was that the actress was the one with the wrong idea, that she did love him but he was the one to make her realize that she loved him. Stalkers have such “obsessive personalities”(Snow 23) that it’s hard for them to understand the rejection from their victims.
In order to become a stalker there first has to be an obsession. After stalkers have found a victim they’ll go through great lengths to have that person near them. “There are individuals who become obsessed with or fixated on a person with whom they have had no intimate or close relationship. The victim may be a friend or a person they met only once or even a stranger”(20)

In society, most people have an obsession to some extent, these may include such things as a hobby – collecting antiques; or even as simple as having to have things a certain way. For others though, obsession has a different meaning, they might become obsessed with one special object, or possibly attaining a certain goal. They might go about achieving this goal no matter what the consequences to others might be. Mordecai Richler’s book the Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, illustrates one such case of obsession, the title character, Duddy Kravitz becomes obsessed with his grandfather’s saying, “ ‘ A man without land, is nothing.’”, thus starting Duddy on his quest to attain a piece of land. Throughout his quest, Duddy has no regard for the feelings or the relationships he destroys in the process, weather it in his family relations, business relations, or even his personal relations to those that are closest to him.
When they feel rejected they can become extremely violent towards whoever they feel rejected them. Celebrities need to be made aware of how to handle stalkers, so that when they are faced with the problem they can deal with it properly. A forensic science graduate states, "Risk management strategies for this type should emphasize the need for professional protection of the target despite the low frequency risk of violence, since the injury is likely to be more serious if violence does occur …" (Mohandie). Many celebrities won't go to the police to report stalkers because they do not believe it is a real problem. This does not help them get the stalker to go away. Real life scenarios of people who suffered from public humiliation or social desecration are presented. Bennett makes her argument conclusive by addressing her audiences' pathos and ethos appeal, sourcing credible individuals throughout the article and stressing the agony and ignominy that the listed individuals perceived. Furthermore, the author demonstrates how critical it is to be conscious about the possibility of not recovering from a fatal encounter on a social network and also raises the question: “What's to stop a person from posting whatever he wants about you, if he can do so anonymously and suffer no repercussions?”(115). Bennett tries to enlighten the reader of “the dark side of Internet fame”(113), showing how publicity may not always be marvelous.
Criminology is when people analysis or use research of why individuals commit crimes, or the individuals react a certain way in many situations. Ail Larter in Obsessed was not really known as a criminal. She developed her personality as a criminal throughout the movie, with her mental illness. Ail Larter was one of the most erotic and passionate female worker in a company with plenty of males. Ail Larter was raised with a wealth family who always sprang her with all her wishes. Her father never showed her love. He was more of a money financial type of father to Ail Larter he was never affectionate with her or even considerate of her emotion. She really never had an affectionate in her past. Most of the guys used her for her sexual characteristics in her past. At times Ail Larter will feel unloved and annoyed by others individual’s marriage. In addition for being this efficient, charming and a manipulative woman she was noticed by many individuals in her work area. Many people do not see her deep depression over love/ her obsession with the idea of a perfect lover for her. Basically she never understood what love was. By her father at no time being around, she at once had the male finger in her life. In fact Ail Larter was not a people person she would not get along with many people, especially females. She disliked wedding and marriage. With time Ail Larter was known for her femininity and her way of getting what she wants. She was very talented in labeling her sexual characteristics with her looks and actions.
We become obsessed with the one thing we desire and it obscures our point of view on the whole. Loretta was unhappy with the thought of going back to work as journalist and as he watched her transformation into a budding actress, he knew he was losing her (Dziuban 167). He was more concerned with maintaining the idea that he fell for than appreciating her as a whole. In conclusion, he didn’t actually love her, only the part of her that found his routine existence fascinating. Obsession is an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person's mind the state of being obsessed with someone or something. In the famous horror film The Chainsaw Massacre, the character Bubba is attacked and craves for the skin off of his victims, just like the true killer Ed Gein, who killed and body snatcher bodies. Why are we captivated to this? Some like the move, just because the different scenes that will make you jumps and the suspense of movies, or even some find it chilling to see how people are being tourchered. But that doesn’t make us a killer. Stalking has been a label for a long-term pattern of persistent pursuit and intrusive behavior directed by one person toward another (Logan & Cole, 2007). It is a term that has been around since the late 1980’s coming about to describe the persistent pursuit of celebrities and today is used to describe all manner of unwanted following, approaching, and harassing behaviors directed toward any individual (Logan & Cole, 2007). Some of the most common forms of stalking are repeated phone calls, visiting home or the work place, sending unwanted gifts, emails, letters, or following the victim.
The final category of stalker is not lovelorn. He is the vengeful stalker. These stalkers become angry with their victims over some slight, real or imagined. Politicians, for example, get many of these types of stalkers who become angry over some piece of legislation or program the official sponsors. But, disgruntled ex-employees can also stalk, whether targeting their former bosses, co-workers or the entire company. Some of these angry stalkers are psychopaths, i.e. people without conscience or remorse. Some are delusional, (most often paranoid), and believe that they, in fact, are the victims. They all stalk to "get even."
Obsession can make you do rash things in order to achieve the goal surround the obsession. Whenever someone’s passion boils over into almost all other aspects of their life, making them do things like cut out sleep, or doing everything necessary to keep a solid mental state, or making rash decisions that could endanger their life, the passion has transformed into an obsession. In 2004 drama and biography, The Aviator, Howard Hughes put his obsession for making the fastest plane over his own physical and mental health, time and again. “My limbs now tremble … but then a resistless, and almost frantic impulse, urged me forward; I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit.” (Vol. I, Ch. 3). Just like Hughes, Frankenstein did not tend to his mental health while attempting to achieve his goals. Victor fell into near debilitating depressions constantly throughout the novel. His family and friends spent months trying to rehabilitate him, while the paranoia of the creature, ate away at his mind. “I could never … confide to [Clerval] that event which was so present to my recollection…” (Vol. I, Ch. 5). They both gave up almost all of their pursuits, paranoid that something could happen that would ruin them forever. Historically, crime and criminals have always caught the attention of law-abiding citizens. Whenever there is mention of serial killers or unsolved murders or abductions, psychological profiling, now a household term, floats to the top of the list of concerns (Egger, 1999). Psychological profiling is an attempt to provide investigators with more information about an offender who has not yet been identified (Egger, 1999). Its purpose is to develop a behavioral composite that combines both sociological and psychological assessment of the would-be offender. It is generally based on the premise that an accurate analysis and interpretation of the crime scene and other locations related to the crime can indicate the type of person who could have committed the crime (Egger, 1999).
