Today at my internship, I observed classes and picked up a few new pointers that great performance coaches possess. In particular, I learned that part of being a sports performance coach is that it is crucial that you know the mechanics and break down of an athletic movement as well as the anatomy of the human body. For example, at my internship today, I learned the mechanics behind a sprint when observing the linear acceleration class. For a sprint, your feet are leaning forward, opposite hand forward and other hand back, feet weight is distributed between both feet, head is straight, and eyes are looking straight forward. Knowledge of an athletic movement and of the human body is important for a sports performance coach to have because it shows the athletes and their parents that your training has a purpose and that you …show more content…

As a result, the athlete and their parent will continue to come to Athletes Arbor for training, allowing the business to continue to grow and strive.
Today’s internship schedule started out with evaluations as well as preparing for the college prep class at 3:30 p.m. After evaluations and prepping for the college prep class, the College Prep class began. During the College Prep class, I observed all the athletes giving great effort. Also, there was a smooth transition between transitioning from one weightlifting exercise to another. Athletes did not have to wait to use equipment. After the College Prep class, I observed a performance coach giving an athlete an evaluation. From shadowing a sports performance coach, evaluating the athlete has to do with testing their baseline scores for the following tests of the 10 and 20 yard dash, 5-10-5 shuttle run, broad jump, and vertical jump.
