Sport pedagogy as a whole is the root, structure and base layer of youth athletes being educated in sport, it is how the “children learn, both in and through sport” (Armour, 2011, P12). The word ‘andragogy’ tends to be the word which is used as pedagogy for adults. (Armour, 2011). Pedagogy is learning how to succeed the best levels in practice and also how to have maximum impact on your students and their needs, in addition, the learning is brought together by innovations, technology and social media (Dr Victoria …show more content…

Cognitivism is a learning theory which can be defined by “the individual learner gains environmental data via the senses (sensory input). These data are processes and organised (thinking). Thereafter, the learner can act on the world (the output of thinking and activity)” (Harris 2000, p2). In real life sporting examples, it can be as easy as chunking the activity, for example, if you were practicing a tennis serve, you could chunk it by remembering; ‘high elbow, lose arm, throw up and not forward’. This can help a player remember in chunks, this theory was created by Miller. As said by Miller, the coach in the netball session was clearly chunking with the netball shooting, for instance, breaking down the shot by just working on the feet. The main learning objectives were on accuracy and endurance, with the coach having objectives, this meant the athletes could easily keep in mind on what to focus on. Along with this, the coach kept asking the participants whether ‘it was ok?’ this reassures the coach that she was helping the girls and making improvements correctly. Overall I believe the coach approached the session in the correct way but there were parts which she could have used more learning techniques to help the players or be more confident in herself so that the players could be more
