Speech on Women in Society Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all I would like to start off with a joke, from the point of
view of a man, about driving.
“Driving to the office this morning on the motorway, I looked over to
my left and there was a woman in a brand new Jaguar doing 90mph with
her face up next to her rear-view mirror putting on her eyeliner.
I looked away for a couple of seconds and when I looked back she was
halfway over in my lane, still working on that make-up. It scared me
so badly; I dropped my electric shaver, which knocked the donut out of
my other hand.
In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the car using my
knees against the steering wheel, it knocked the mobile phone away
from my ear which fell into the coffee between my legs, splashed and
burned big Jim and the twins, causing me to scream, which made me drop
the cigarette out of my mouth, ruined the damn phone and disconnected
an important call.
Bloody women drivers!”
For those of you in the audience who are easily offended, that was
your cue to leave.
Tonight, I’d like to talk to you about the roles of men and women. I
will be debating the theory ‘A woman’s place is in the home.’ My view
on this topic: NO!
My first topic is Women and History. Over the years, men have made
many big mistakes; for example, it has always been men, or men’s
direct/indirect actions that have been the cause of many wars, most
famous killers have been men, and men h...

Men usually do not seem to have much common sense, or if they do, they
don’t use it very often.
For example:
“Moses wandered in the desert for 40 years. He wouldn’t ask for
directions.
A man would rather be burnt at the stake than admit to a woman that
he’s lost.”
In my view, a woman’s place is where she is most effective, where she
is most needed. It is a woman’s decision where she wants to be, not a
man’s. Women have a lot more to offer than just being at home. I
believe than men and women are equal. Women may even be better, but
we’ll never know if we can’t break free from the male chauvinist pigs
of our time. Men have been suppressing women and their views for
hundreds of years. Men have ruled over women for far too long. I say:
it’s our turn!
“Women Rights” Hillary Rodham Clinton is a well-recognized woman in the United States. Her great contribution as secretary of State impact people’s lives. One of many remarkable speeches Hillary gave was the “The women rights speech”, in the 4th World Conference on Women Plenary Session where she uses strong words and emotions to appeal the audience. Even though the speech talks about women rights, she wants everyone, including men and children to listen and take action. Her use of ethos, logos and pathos throughout the speech made the audience believe in her words.

As I read the speech it was easy for me to identify where Shirley was coming from and the side she took on the topic of Women’s Rights. The lack of equality, weather that be with women or the African American race, is an issue. As a woman myself in today’s society she brought to my attention some very valid points. I thought the speech did a good job persuading me toward standing up for equality. Shirley successfully used arguments of parallel case, arguments from generalization and the
Modernism is the term of deviating from the norm. In the early 1900s, modernism influenced women’s role in society by providing more opportunities, jobs, and role models for girls today, in society.
Suggested roles of all types set the stage for how human beings perceive their life should be. Gender roles are one of the most dangerous roles that society faces today. With all of the controversy applied to male vs. female dominance in households, and in the workplace, there seems to be an argument either way. In the essay, “Men as Success Objects”, the author Warren Farrell explains this threat of society as a whole. Farrell explains the difference of men and women growing up and how they believe their role in society to be. He justifies that it doesn’t just appear in marriage, but in the earliest stages of life. Similarly, in the essay “Roles of Sexes”, real life applications are explored in two different novels. The synthesis between these two essays proves how prevalent roles are in even the smallest part of a concept and how it is relatively an inevitable subject.
During the 19th century, in eastern America, men were the heads of families and controllers of the work place, while women had little power, especially over their roles; particularly upper class women due to the lack of necessity for them to work outside the home. “Men perpetrated an ideological prison that subjected and silenced women”(Welter, Barbara). Their only responsibilities were to be modest, proper women who took care of themselves and did not stray from the purpose of motherhood. They were to remain in the home scene and leave the public work to the men; trapped in their own households, they were expected to smile, accept, and relish such a life. Barbra Walter also agrees that women were imprisoned in their homes, and were merely good for maintaining the family, “a servant tending to the needs of the family”(Welter). Many women's emotions, as well as minds, ran amiss from this life assignment and caused them to stray from the social norms set up by tradition. The narrator in Charlotte Gilman's story, The Yellow Wallpaper, is a victim of such emotional disobedience and rebelliousness. As well as the rebellious women in the poem The Woman in the Ordinary, by Marge Piercy.

In the year 1873, a speech was given which would change America and women’s rights forever. For one of the first times in history, a woman is the one standing up for political and social issues during the mid-1800’s. Susan B. Anthony was 52 years old when she was fined $100 for casting an illegal ballot during an 1872 presidential election which in turn Anthony refused to pay the fine and fought for the rights of women. Her persistence and eagerness could be heard and felt in the speeches she gave across the country. After her arrest, Anthony gave a speech which was titled "Is it a Crime for a Citizen of the U.S. to Vote?” which approached the inequality that surround the men and women of the United States before 1875. It was time for change and her perseverance came at the right moment. The mutual feeling other women clutched to helped propel her speech and her ideas into action which lead to their being a success in equality and the 19th amendment being added to the Constitution.

Our Nation was built on the ideas of freedom and independence. With that concept, I believe that our government needs to trust that women have the capability to choose what is best for their future. Our society should respect women’s independence and grant them the freedom to decide what is right. This issue is important to me because history has shown that restricting abortions, not only undermines women, but can also be very dangerous.
Women's rights has come a long way from what they use to be. For example The women suffrage in North Carolina was horrible, men believed "women were not equal of men mentally" and being able to vote "would take them out of their proper sphere of life." Women didn't attend to physically hard working jobs like men, they stayed home to take care of cleaning, tending to the garden, went grocery shopping, an always made the food. She would be there when the kids got off school to give them a snack an then start preparing for dinner so her husband had food when he came home from work an the kids would have dinner an the mother would always cater to everyone else before catering to herself, then after everyone finished their meals they would give her the dishes so she could start washing them. Imagine being a woman having to do this day after day and being looked down upon by men.
The role women play in today’s society is a drastic change from the previous role. Women used to be confined to the superiority of the man. Physically, mentally, and emotionally abused, belittled, embarrassed, and silenced. These are just a few examples of the emotion from the isolated treatment of the past. A woman’s role in today’s society is more valued than ever before.
A women's role has changed tremendously and is making its greatest impact in our society today. Many years ago, women's contribution to society was limited and controlled by men. Women are standing tall and are playing a major role in many important areas. Women's role has changed at an accelerating rate and have part in areas such as Politics, Professional Training Jobs, Medicine,Business and Law. Formerly they were not part of any political matter, but they have advanced in many aspects. For example, women have attained power and have been growing in political office.
Feminism today is a social stigma, it should not be. From how I see it, when someone is called a feminist it is often used to insult another, it should not be. Today more than ever, there are millions of people who I would consider feminists and I am happy there are. Feminism is the practice of giving women their God given right of equal opportunity, rights, and privileges that are given to men. Feminism though a practice, is also an idea that will grow and push our society to further successes in every aspect of daily life. Feminism is the same idea that human genders and races strive for, equality. This is embodied in our society in multiple ways in our society through employment, media, and support.
