In the early 1960s whenever space flights were launched during school hours students would gather in gyms and auditoriums to watch the lift offs on television. Starting with the better side the Erie Canal substantially impacted many economies across the New York state. “The Erie Canal is considered the engineering marvel of the 19th Century. When the federal government concluded that the project was too ambitious to undertake, the State of New York took on the task of carving 363 miles of canal through the wilderness with nothing but the muscle power of men and horses.” The canal changed the culture of more then 50,000 people as their lives become more revolved around a waterway system. Traveling on the canal by boat was a major change and exciting for many families as they were brought together at a cheaper cost, being able to spend more time with each other. Although the entire world is familiar with the City of Washington as the United State’s capital, the city was nonexistent when we became a nation in 1789. Thanks to the brilliant design of the French born engineer, Pierre Charles L’Enfant and his assistants Benjamin Banneker and Andrew Ellicot, our capital city that was once a swamp now is beautiful with many different parks, gardens trees, tall buildings and wide avenues.
If there were about one million visitors this year, the park would make at least $8,000,000. Every dollar goes back to the park and its rangers. While that may be a nice stream of revenue, it does not even cover a fourth of the cost to restore the Everglades. The estimated cost of fully restoring the Everglades will total to around $10 to $14 billion and could take upwards of 15 years starting from the year 2015.

Ecotourism, an economic model that combines tourism with commerce, contributes to the maintenance of national parks and allows isolated small towns surrounding national parks to thrive. According to Frye and Nuest, in addition to the views, “these wonders of the Earth provide ample opportunities for visitors to hike, bicycle, climb, swim, horseback ride, and paddle” (PAGE NUMBER). Such activities contribute to the visitors’ experience and have resulted in great customer satisfaction (Roemer and Vasek 46). All of these activities, along with other further services such as lodging and dining, create income for national parks and local businesses, as well, as more employment opportunities for the people, working for both local business and at the national parks. The NPS website claimed that they employed approximately 22,000 permanent, temporary, and seasonal professionals. However, when the idea of commerce comes into play with the preservation of natural and historic sites, the danger to lose

People predicted things about it, some predictions were false and some were true, but no matter who says what about the canal, both positive and negative impacts can be argued about the construction of this canal. The Erie Canal made an impact on many movements including but certainly not limited to the abolitionist movement, and the women's rights movement. This manmade water way also effected how people transported throughout the country. In fact, until the railroads were built, the Erie Canal was the fasted and most efficient way to travel and move goods around the country. In conclusion, the Erie Canal effected the united states positively, negatively, regardless of what people predicted would happen if this canal was
This consequently secured the Midwest’s support for the Union during the Civil War. “Had the Erie Canal not provided an outlet for the agricultural product of the west, the most obvious path to export would have been down the Mississippi to New Orleans” ( ). The inexorable formation of a commercial alliance would have been established, and the lines dividing the two sides of the Civil War would have been redrawn. If this were the case, the South could have very well won the war, and the United States would not be at the size or state that it currently is. To sum it up, the Erie Canal tremendously impacted the fate of the American nation by unintentionally forming a substantial commercial and political bond between the West and the East.

Surprisingly, the United States’ space program started with the Cold War. The Cold war pushed the United States and the Soviet Union into a space race in which both nations rapidly developed space programs and tried to best each other in space exploration (Cold War 1). The Kennedy Space Center was built in Florida as a control center which handled many of the shuttle launches into space (NASA 1). The Space Center was built in Florida for many specific reasons including climate and location (Matson 1).
