Sociology is the study of the interactions and reactions of humans and the conditions and events around them. This type of science is used to help understand and even forecast how people how people act and will react toward each other and to different situations in their lives. Additionally, sociology looks at our various cultures and what things help shape it, such as, politically, economically, religiously, educationally, and recreationally. Sociology is more so about trying to better understand people, and to provide a basis to help improve our societies.
Sports sociology looks at sports as a part of cultural and social life, and adds a different dimension and perspective to the study of sports and exercise. It also examines how athletes and their performances are influenced by the conditions around them, whether it’s family, friends, coaches, teammates, and the organizations they represent or play for. Also, people study sports in society because sports are socially significant activities for many people; they provide excitement, memorable experiences, and opportunities to initiate and extend social relationships. First, sports have become engrained into our everyday society. Whether you play sports, watch sports, exercise, or do not participate in sports in any way; it is still a part of people’s lives. I have been watching sports since I was born, and playing sports starting when I was 4 years old. I still to this day continue to play in organized sports because it has been engrained in me, and can’t imagine a day when I’m not participating in some kind of organized sport. I also use sports and exercise to help bond with my wife and kids as a vehicle to enhance our relationship, communicate better, have fun, and stay
