The three articles discussed describe three different subjects, but they each have a few main points that make them similar. Each article describes ways for students to improve their learning in the field of sociology and how they can succeed in that learning. The sociological imagination is one of the key points in the articles. It is discussed throughout each article about the importance of understanding the sociological imagination and how it can be applied to help students succeed in the field of sociology. In a study conducted, it concluded that if students showed a lack of motivation to participate in the study might have reflected their commitment to sociology (McKinney & Naseri, 2011). Students understand that they have to be active participants in their learning. Sociologists can infer which students would have a strong commitment to sociology based on their motivation to be in the study. This will also show which students are truly passionate about being in the sociology field. A student’s progress in sociology courses was presented by interest in courses and major, ideas about current learning strategies, and abilities to use the sociological imagination (McKinney, 2007). This article showed that having an interest in the subject is a key aspect to succeeding in sociology course and even the major. It is an important goal for sociology classes to teach students the sociological imagination and even if it is taught to students, they have to be able to understand it. A study conducted on college seniors planning to graduate found that the seniors were less to more successful in understanding and developing the sociological imagination (McKinney, 2007). Students need to understand the sociological imagination in order to succeed in the field of sociology; students need to be more successful in understanding and developing the sociological imagination rather than less successful. A sociologist should be able to understand the sociological imagination and be able to apply your own thoughts in order to create new knowledge with other sociologists (Magolda, 2009).
