This essay will identify key issues facing the client system and will demonstrate an intervention plan. Followed by defining the purpose of social work and the identification of the AASW Code of Ethics, in regards to the case study. Lastly, key bodies of knowledge will be identified and applied to the case study. There are numerous issues throughout the case study, therefore only a small selection of key issues will be identified. Stellios has Asperger’s Syndrome, suffers from depression and anxiety, experienced a series of seizures, and was then diagnosed as an epileptic. An outcome of Asperger’s syndrome is limited social skills, this has resulted in Stellios having a limited support network. Isabella attempts to encourage Stellios to explore new opportunities, but Stellios isolates himself from opportunities due to fears of failing. The family endured domestic violence resulting in a family breakdown. Costa would have abusive episodes, and Isabella and her sons, Alex and Stellios suffered this. Stellios is estranged from Costa, but in Stellios’ childhood, Costa verbally abused Stellios using derogatory words. Many suspected Costa to have Asperger’s syndrome, but was never formally assessed. Possibly, due to the negative attitudes regarding mental health. Additionally, Isabella appears to be particularly stressed, as she appears to have a lack of support. A social worker must have the knowledge and skills to apply to intervention strategies that can address key issues through a wide range of tools (Miley, O’Melia & Dubois 2013, p. 7). To devise an intervention plan for the case study, Miley’s (2013, p. 112) four step model is utilised.
