“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15) In today's world there is not a certain “type” of individual that struggles with forgiveness of themselves or of others. Since there is not only one “type” of individual that struggle with forgiveness there are many individuals that struggle with the concept of forgiveness. Forgiveness is a very difficult thing to do with others sin against you. Considering the fact I am still in my studies of social work, I do not have a identify in social work and forgiveness, but it takes my calling to learn and practice receiving and extending forgiveness of those that have sinned. Social workers work with many different types of people and they have to be accepting to all types to guide the patients to completely goals. The quote “forgiveness is a promise, not a feeling. When you forgive other people, you are making a promise never to use their past sins against them”, connections social work and forgiveness. This quote along with trust and assistance from God has helped me understand more of my calling as a social worker in my coming years of practice. As a social worker my job will not to judge someone's past or view people through past, but to forgive their past and actions, and help guide the individual to receive and extend forgiveness from themselves, others, and God while moving forward in their life.
