The research I am conducted was at a clinic specializing in diabetes. The patients that go see the physicians are also there for both acute and chronic illnesses. My role as a researcher was an insider because I currently work part-time there. I am able to access the clinic without any problems.
The aim of the study allowed me to examine the subjects on how social support influences opinions, motivation, and particular requirements of a patient. Interviews were conducted with primary care providers (PCPs) and two primary groups with medical assistants and patients with chronic type II diabetes. In order to fully understand how social support can be beneficial in a diabetic clinic, a qualitative approach was used. A qualitative approach involves integration of one on one interviews and observations to enhance the realistic circumstances to how social support provides positive results. The role of PCPs and medical assistants is vital to provide a holistic and realistic representation of social support.
The recruitment process was chosen based upon the number of work experience (10 years minimum) of a PCP in the region of Buena Park. The MAs and patient participants were selected from the same …show more content…

MAs reported that there is not enough outside information that patients can use when researching about potential social support facilities. PCPs reported that they only knew a handful of places that utilized social support. Patients stated that they were unaware of any social support groups around their area. All three groups had different perspectives about the significance of outside social support in a primary care setting. Some PCPs discussed that in order to increase the likelihood of outside social support; other community programs must be involved.
