What is Social Science?
“A branch of science that deals with the institutions and functioning of human society and with the interpersonal relationships of individuals as members of a society.” (Merriam Webster)

What different branches make up Social Science? Social science is the broad term for the studies of humanity, within this term there are a great deal of branches that focus on the study of humanity in relation to something else. For example, the branch of Psychology is one in which you study humans and their behavior’s in many different environments. Another example is the branch in which we study Economics. Political Science- “An academic and research discipline that deals with the theory and practice of politics and the description and analysis of political behaviour.” (Wiki)
Geography- “Modern geography is an all-encompassing discipline, closely related to GISc, that seeks to understand humanity and its natural environment.” (Wiki)
Psychology- “An academic applied field involving the study of behaviour and mental processes.” (Wiki)
Sociology- “The systematic study of society and the human social action.” (Wiki)
Anthropology- “The holistic “science of man’, a science of the totality of human existence.” (Wiki)
Archaeology- “Study of prehistoric human society and the artifacts it left behind.” (Social science is born)
Jurisprudence- “A rule that (unlike a rule of ethics) is capable of enforcement through institutions.” (Wiki)
History- “The continuous, systematic narrative and research into the past human events as interpreted through historiographical paradigms or theories.” (Wiki)
Linguistics- “linguistics investigates the cognitive and social aspects of human language.” (Wiki)

When choosing my classes, I thought I would take some social science classes because ultimately that is what my major will be in. Going into it I thought social science classes would be somewhat similar to psychology but boy was I wrong. I have found that social science in the wide scheme has a general feeling more like history than like psychology. While reading Luker I have found myself thinking more scientifically and about specific processes rather than in my psychology classes where thought is focused more upon feelings and emotions. I find this interesting how it can all feel so different within each branch of study while still being under one greater field and this is only two of the many branches within the social science discipline. I have much more to learn from all of these branches we are talking
