What comes to mind when one hears the word rehabilitation? Do we coorelate it to physical rehabilitation? What about the case of societal rehabilitation? Certainly one would think societal rehabilitation encourages a shared aspect to multiple people based on behaviours effecting society and not necessarly the one being rehabilitated alone. with physical rehabilitation a Doctor or Health physician can diagnose whether one is physicaly rehabilitated by the pure evidence of his physical capabilities being restored. The question I purpose is how does one truly diagnose a behaviour or social rehabilitation? It defines it as three parts. First is "to bring (someone or something) back to a normal, healthy condition after an illness, injury, drug problem, etc". Second is "to teach (a criminal in prison) to live a normal and productive life". Third is "to bring (someone or something) back to a good condition" Based on Mr Nobles crime, the murder of two females and the injury of one male, the majority of society would agree he was a criminal and not in good condition. In fact the essay makes an account of his disorderly conduct from the moment he entered into prison with an attempt to escape as well as many altercations with guards. Although Mr Nobles had the choice to continue that pattern of behaviour he eventually diverted to a more possitive and cooperative in his new and unevitable habitat. Yes, this man was a criminal and he did create a horrible crime, but I believe this is evidence that he had a good and pleasurable accountanance for individuals in a hostile enviroment to respect him in such a matter. Rehabilitation also involves programs in prisons that have the goal of helping offenders return back to society (Goff, 2014, p.20). Prisons have also put in place programs to assist inmates, “the goal of these release programs are to ease the transition of offenders from the institution into the community while simultaneously promoting stable employment after release” (Cullen & Jonson, 2011, p.309). If a person has been in an institution for a long period of time it is often hard to adjust to life outside, which is why these programs are important in the justice
In today’s society, many people commit crimes and illegal behavior is nothing new. Society knows that there are criminals and they have criminal intentions. The question today is not if people are going to commit crimes, it is finding the most effective method to help those criminals reenter society as productive citizens, and preventing new people from becoming criminals. Department of corrections around the nation have implemented a program that identifies the most effective method. The “what works” movement outlines four general principles that are implemented in the rehabilitation of criminals; and, these principles are risk principle, criminogenic need principle, treatment principle, and fidelity principle.
He cares about people and believes that the safety of individuals is decreasing because criminals are not punished effectively by imprisonment and that some even receive a “sign of manhood” from going to prison (1977). Additionally, he is upset that the ineffective system is so expensive. His concern for his audience’s safety and his carefully argued grounds, which he uses to support his claim, create a persona of an intelligent person of goodwill. Jeff Jacoby does an excellent job informing his audience that the current criminal justice system is not any more humane than the physical forms of punishment used in the past.
You have to reintegrate yourself into society and deal with the obstacles to rebuild your life in the ‘real world’. And without a healthy and supportive community post-rehab, it can be more challenging to sustain long-term recovery.
...ple. Before this experience, I do not think I could have ever said I respected a convicted burglar or any criminal. These were humans who made incredibly bad decisions, but that does not mean they do not deserve a second chance if they are willing to change, some aren’t, but I emphasized for the prisoners who were. Prison is a lot of their second chances. “I am lucky to still be alive, if I were not here (in prison), I most likely wouldn’t be alive,” exclaimed one prisoner. This experience allowed me to be thankful for the life I was given, the home I grew up in, and how my parents raised me. I cannot say I would not walk into a prison frightened and with preconceived thoughts again because I would be lying. I have been taught by society to be scared of these people, but I am thankful I can say I did meet kind, remorseful prisoners waiting for their second chance.
Anybody can write and persuade a certain audience, based on how the writer wants their audience to look at the situation. In Steve Earle’s essay “A Death in Texas”, he persuades his readers that he wants to believe that Johnathan Wayne Nobles was rehabilitated. In the essay, Nobles was a changed man within faith from becoming a religious man within the prison walls. Prison guards learned to trust Nobles with his quick-witted charm and friendliness. Steve persuaded himself that Johnathan was a changed man from the words that they had exchanged over the years on paper. Reality states that no matter how much someone changed in the present, it doesn’t change what they have done in the past. Earle describes in the essay “There he will be pumped full of chemicals that will collapse his lungs and stop his heart forever” (Earle 73). He’s persuading the audience with horrid emotion with facts of a lethal injection that will happen to Johnathan. What Earle doesn’t describe is how gruesomely Johnathan’s murders were. In this world everyone has a chance to know right from wrong, even if someone was brought up wrong in the society. This episode of The First 48 documents a case in Atlanta, Georgia where two innocent, young women were brutally murdered by Ardentric Johnson, a 36 year old drug addict whom was living in the abandoned house on Madrona Street where he committed these savage murders. Ardentric Johnson had previous convictions for carrying a concealed weapon, theft, false imprisonment, and battery. In Criminal Justice and English there are concepts like Rehabilitation,Evidence, Pathos, and Logos that help solve bloody murders, just like the brutal case we saw in The First 48: The House on Madrona Street.

This model of corrections was designed to help the inmate reach a level where they can be reintegrated in to the community, therefore taking these individuals to a stage where they are able to be rehabilitated.
The medical model is the model of corrections based on the assumption that criminal behavior is caused by social, psychological, or biological deficiencies that require treatment (Clear 53). This model of corrections aimed at treating the illness of criminals with hopes that once released, the offender will be cured of their ailment and will not re-offend. In 1929, the idea of institutions aimed at rehabilitation as the primary purpose were introduced into America. It was thought that this would be easy to achieve because prisons already existed and the only adjustment would be to add programs to diagnose and treat patients. In theory this model seemed to be a perfect solution. Unfortunately, this program was unsuccessful in the long run because of budget problems and the lack of proper testing.

Rehabilitation in the community can either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how the person looking at it, some people may say its good because they get to get out of jail faster and get help in trying to get a job and maintain that job. And some people can say its bad because they get out of jail to soon and risk the possibility of him or her going back to there ways and committing another crime because the temptation is still there. Through out this essay I will be talking about how the rehabilitation can benefit the community and how it can also put people in danger even though the offender is being monitored by a care taker.
