The love of social media in the society of today is so strong, one of the most common thing teens do on a daily is check their social media. But with the love of social media comes isolation and spending most time alone since everything is done online reducing the eye contact that teens have with others around them and with their peers, as the eye contact they have begins to be their phone only without limit. Causing social media to lead to social anxiety, teens need be limited on how much time they spend on social media so it doesn’t lead them to isolation and social anxiety. People claim that social media is such a helpful resource for teens to interact, express feelings, and share their life and even these are all great things that social media can offer, without limit it can lead to mental health issues such as social anxiety. When a subject such as this one is brought up people are quick to jump to social media’s side. Sedentary behaviors are activities where someone sits or lies down while doing something for instance, searching social media. Social media further encourages these sorts of sedentary behaviors. “Typically, a person uses social media on their computer or mobile device while passing the time during a sedentary activity.” (Strickland 6). A sedentary activity can often take advantage of a person which is probably what causes social media to trigger mental illnesses such as social anxiety and what causes teens to isolate themselves from people.
