ALADDIN 1 “Aladdin” demonstrates how social class and power can affect the lives of different individuals. The 1992 film is an Arabian-style folktale, based in the time period of high poverty. Aladin is more than just a kids story, it has more meaning to it. It is a story that represents the struggle for lower classes in Islamic and worldwide society. In this story Aladdin struggled with poverty, he was a master thief who had a dream to make higher class. He was given his opportunity to take on his dream when he came across a genie who could grant his wish, which allowed him to become prince and marry the princess, but he was not satisfied with his success. Disney’s 1998 classic tale, Mulan, is renowned as a timeless film, one that inspires young girls everywhere. It is by far the most girl-power filled film in the Disney Princess franchise due to its eponymous heroine who goes to war in place of her father by impersonating a male soldier. Not only does she singlehandedly save the whole country of China, but she also manages to get a husband in the process, with whom she lives happily ever after. The book itself demonstrates the development of the characters as they got more mature to which this bad past they had causes them to reinforce a more effective functioning father and son relationship. A neglect of a father may lead to bad decisions as a father should be there to ensure and reinforce a lesson to his son, acquiring the happiness of the son which is necessary for a fatherly figure.

In 2009, Disney released a movie called the Princess and the Frog. The movie itself tells a story about Disney’s first black Princess, a poor African – American named Tiana. Her mother works as a clothes maker for her best friend’s father. The friend was a privileged white girl. Disney’s first idea was to named Tiana Madeleine, in which she would be a chambermaid for a white woman, a historically ‘correct’ profession, however this idea was too much like slavery. Her family friend throws a party one night and a magician turns Prince Naveen into a frog. The Prince convinces Tiana that if she kisses him, he would turn back into a Prince and would help her to open her own restaurant. However, after Tiana kisses Prince Naveen, she too turns into a frog, and the two of them then set on an adventure to find a voodoo specialist who can turn them back and fix everything for them. Tiana being Disney’s first black Princess was a big step forward for Disney. However, many articles point out that though Disney may have cast a black princess for the very first time, the Princess spends most of her time as a frog. This leads to the impression of Disney not wanting to have the lead as a black princess. Poverty on social conditions affects everyone in every part of the world, no matter if they are rich or poor. First of all, everyone is divided into some sort of social class. The most known classes are the economic classes- the lower class, the middle class, and the higher class. The lower class goes through arduous labor all day and night to earn decent amounts of money to provide for themselves and their families. Most likely, they are the only source of income for the entire family. The higher class works hard to keep up or raise their high social status.
