Is it the Shoes? The idea of having the perfect pair of shoes to match a particular outfit swans in the mind of many people while shopping. Sneakers have evolved into an ideological object in today’s trendy culture. Sneakers have developed its own self-proclaimed culture, and has created terms for people who are a part of it. In older days, sneakers were mainly used for one purpose. To protect ones feet was the sole purpose years ago. The evolution of technology and resources has permitted sneakers to evolve into this international ideological object that possess the power to harm our society. To some people, sneakers are nothing more than just a regular item. Citizens of the sneaker world presume this object to be immortal. It is easy to see that this representation of the structure of every society as an edifice containing a base (infrastructure) on which are erected the two ‘floors’ of the superstructure (Altusser 38). There are some sneakers that sneaker gurus think a person shouldn’t wear because of the design, structures, and meaning of the shoe. Some sneakers are very scarce. Customers buy the shoes at retail price and then resell them for hundreds more than what the retail price was. The value of some sneakers, such as the Nike Foamposite Galaxy, can reach into the thousands. The existence of high valued sneakers cause vital harm to society. People don’t elaborate prior to purchasing this high dollar object. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on one object, they can invest that money into a non-profit organization such as Feed the Children. Many people put their life in harm’s way every time they camp out for the release of these shoes.
