The advertisement uses a gun and cigarettes to display the damage smoking causes. The cigarettes are used as bullets which infers to the statement “smoking kills.” The image clearly focuses on why to stop smoking and those who view this advertisement should not miss anything, especially not the gun or bullets as cigarettes. It also gives the reader a list of major health consequences from smoking cigarettes such as strokes, increased blood pressure, emphysema, cancer, suppresses immune function, reduces stamina, leads to depression and fatigue, may cause fatal heart attacks, etc. According to CDC, cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, accounting for more than 440,000 deaths, or one of five deaths, in the United States each year. People from every culture have smoked something, even if it was for pleasure, stress or to assist with medical purposes or perhaps it could be an aspect of popular culture or part of a ritual that these different cultures have. With American Culture, smoking goes way back because smoking has been around for years and there were even pipes back then which are still used in today’s society by the older people. According to CNN, cigarettes had been around in crude from since the early 1600s and did not become widely favored in the Unites States until after the Civil War, which is still an extended amount of time. Therefore, when I think about American Culture and the story behind it, it started from other Americans and worked its way to other people such as us and became very popular and worldwide. Some cultural values might influence adolescents’ as well an elderly person’s behavior and attitude towards certain things.
