During the time of their new year's eve dinner that was held at Arthur's court. Until a big disturbance happened from the green knight. The Author describes The Green Knight to be a supernatural creature that seems to just put fear in everybody's heart. The Green Knight who is immortality want's to challenge anybody who think they could defeat him. Arthur hesitates to even respond, but when The Green Knight mocks Arthur's silence, the king steps forward to challenge The Green Knight but as soon as Arthur reaches for the axe he was stopped buy Gawain who is Kings Arthur's nephew and is read as one of king Arthur's most loyal Knight. Gawain receives 3 blows on his shoulder. Gawain's tries not to show too much fear, The Green knight decided to stop because he seen the amount of fear written on his face. The Green knight laughs at Gawain and congratulate him for coming to far without having fear in his heart. In the story it was described that The Green Knight was more of an morally ambiguous figure because throughout the poem he started out as an evil person, but towards the end of the poem where Gawain went to finish defeating the Green Knight, they end up talking and becoming friends after the aftermath of the embarrassment done by Gawain. While Gawain was on his journey it was described by the author that the court wasn’t really behind him. They thought it was funny that somebody like Gawain actually decide to continue to battle The Green Knight. The author described that as he was coming back the court wanted to be like him because they really didn’t think he was going to come back. I think what was significant about the court was when Gawain returned everyone identified the girdle and found out the history about it and decide to wear on for his recognition and respect towards him.
