There are many similarities and differences between the characters Romeo from Romeo and Juliet, and Tony from West Side story. They both were lovers and fell in love with a forbidden enemy from another family or gang. Romeo was forbidden to love Juliet because she was a Capulet and he was a Montague. Tony was from a rival gang, the Jets, while Maria's brother was the leader of the Sharks.
