Carson DiPascal English IV Mrs. Schroder 4/25/18 1984 vs The Hunger Games In 1984 the people of Oceania deal with the oppression where Big Brother scrutinizes people and their actions. This book can be compared with many other books that have different societal means. 1984 can be compared with the Hunger Games by the government, people, and society alone. 1984 shows dictatorship in Oceania. Big Brother and the inner party are above everyone else. After that leaves the outer parties which is the middle party, and at the bottom are the proles which makes up about 85% of the whole population. Big Brother focuses on thought control for the proles. They are not super rigorous about it but Big Brother does try to restrict who talks to who, how they interact, and avoid talking about social values. The Hunger Games controls the districts speech when it comes to social values, and any disagreements with Capital is taken care of immediately. Now for both books, the children are forced into specific programs. For 1984, all children are put in something called the Junior Spies. This is a time where the people in the party persuade the next generation to spy on their parents to make sure they are faithful to the party. For the kids that find their parents doing things that didnt honor Big Brother, would have to report to the party about their parents with the result of them getting in trouble for their actions. The Hunger Games system only involves two children ages twelve through eighteen years old from each district. The two children are forced to fight for their lives against every other district, and everybody is forced to watch this event. These two events are very different but they both have a way of splitting up families of the less fortunate. 1984 turns the kids against their parents making a divide in their homes, and in The Hunger Games President Snow basically takes the lives of young …show more content…

Conflicts between disagreement or hatred revolves around the whole plot of the two books. Oceania has problems with Eurasia and Eastasia because they all have similar ideas. Although they are enemies, the three continents have an agreement to stay at war just so they stay diverse. Now for the Hunger Games its different. All the districts hate President Snow for what he puts them against and forces them to do, but there is no fighting against it and because of that and the Hunger Games, the districts are out to kill each other for the sake of their individual lives. They may not have any hatred against these districts but killing shows an act of having enemies. Hatred from the Proles and the people from the districts for society is easily comparable because of how they are forced to live under dictatorship. Winston and Julia always find ways to quietly talk about the party and rebelling. Over time they have found ways around the party so that they won't be caught when talking about it. Katniss and Gale have the same idea of rebelling in the Hunger Games. After they are selected, they attempt to get the whole district to stop watching the Hunger Games because it is a mandatory event to watch.
