I believe that Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is a modern day adaptation of Perseus. There are many reasons that I believe this and that is what I am going to explain to you in this essay. I also believe that Percy Jackson is a more current version of the Perseus story and more relatable as well.

First of all, the events in both the movie and the reading are similar. In the movie “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon. Percy and the teacher both confirm this “My father is poseidon, The teacher - god of the seas.” (Columbus Percy Jackson) This shows that there is some similarities to the Perseus story. “No longer was Danaë lonesome, for now she was the happy bride of Zeus. But when her father heard the cries of an infant from her chamber…” (D’Aulaire 115) This is stating that she had a son with Zeus making Perseus. That means that both versions have similar parts and their fathers being one of the three main gods is one of those things. In the stories both of the gods sons have to kill Medusa. In both stories the heroes are prodigies to start out, they both don’t know how to be a hero but kind of evolve and turn out of the prodigy. As they go through the story they both become the perfect hero learning from their mistakes to become the perfect hero, they both have mistakes to learn from and that is what shapes them into becoming the perfect hero.
