What do Bill Clinton the 42nd President of the United States and Macbeth the former King of Scotland have in common? More than you think. Macbeth by Shakespeare is a tragedy that dramatises the effects of political ambition. Bill Clinton is the 42nd President of the United States and was the former governor of Arkansas. Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives for a charge on perjury and a charge on obstruction of justice. A quote from history.com says “Less than a month later, on September 9, Kenneth Starr submitted his report and 18 boxes of supporting documents to the House of Representatives. Released to the public two days later, the Starr Report outlined a case for impeaching Clinton on 11 grounds, including perjury, obstruction of justice, witness-tampering, and abuse of power, and also provided explicit details of the sexual relationship between the president and Ms. Lewinsky.” Bill Clinton was acquitted by the Senate so he did not end up leaving office. Clinton lied about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Clinton is in a position of power, and when you are in a position of power you believe you are allowed to do things without dealing with the consequences. People in power like taking advantage of that power to do whatever they please. A quote from go.groiler.com says “He now admitted that he did have an intimate relationship with Lewinsky that was not appropriate, but denied that it had been a "sexual" relationship.” He lied multiple times in front of a jury saying that he did not have sexuak relations with Moncia. It wasn’t until they found evidence that he did, that he told the truth about it. Clinton lied because he believed he could get away with it. That people would believe him because of who he was. Macbeth’s weakness was his ambition and his ego as well. After killing Duncan he began to kill anyone that may get in his way; he even went as far as killing Macduff's wife and children. Shakespeare says “The castle of Macduff I will surprise; Seize upon Fife; give to the edge o' the sword His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls That trace him in his line.
