A conversation between Macbeth and Beowulf would be one with great disagreements and arguments due to the fact that both portrayed the same traits in distinct ways. Both men have two different ideals and approaches to certain situations. One of the common themes between both men would be of personal growth. They would disagree on this because both of the characters’ intents are different. Also, because personal growth comes through helping others progress as well. For example, Beowulf would speak about how he grew through helping and protecting others. Beowulf, a mighty human, decides to fight a dragon that threatens his people at the expense of his death. Physically, man is one, but if you delve deeper into the man, he can be separated into two parts which creates a whole man. Although Gawain and Beowulf share many similarities, their characters are almost complete opposites. Each of these beloved characters are placed in unfavorable circumstances, yet they manage to pursue their own desires despite the will of those around them. The novel Ransom by David Malouf (2009) and Beowulf by Anonymous (?8thC) uses different narrative uses of the hero and the failure to be heroic within their respective texts. They both challenge the readers understanding of what it means to be heroic. Malouf depicts that there are greater acts of courage than those that can be gained through a battle, which are qualities of a hero. Both Priam and Achilles are expected to behave in a certain way which causes them to become symbols for a hero, as well as images of the ideal king and warrior for the people who are around them. It is through these characters, as well as Somax, that Malouf highlights that ordinary people who live and work away from the battle field are also capable of having qualities of heroes such as compassion, bravery and courage. Similarly, within Beowulf, the reader is constantly reminded of his heroic presence and strength as he is an ideal king an archetypal warrior. Beowulf is the greatest of the heroes depicted in the poem not only because he has the greatest prowess in battle. He also meets his social obligations for society. He has the values of a civilised man, as well as the strength of the warrior. Boewulf always looks after his people and is always gracious and kind therefore becoming a hero. Themes of compassion and kindness, and courage and bravery are explored in both texts.
Macbeth: Shakespeare's Comparisons and Contrasts. Throughout Macbeth Shakespeare uses comparison and contrast to bring out characteristics of his main character, Macbeth. Shakespeare uses comparisons with Duncan, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo to bring out aspects of Macbeth's character. After hearing of Macbeth's courageousness on the battlefield, Duncan, a good and honest king, bestows the title of Cawdor on Macbeth.

In the stories of Beowulf and A Knight's Tale, there are many different themes. One of the major themes is the religion that runs through both of them, yet both stories have a very different view of religion. Macbeth, at the beginning of Macbeth, had a reputation of an honorable war hero, but after he meets the three witches in the street with his friend, Banquo, his pride begins to change to that of a power hungry man who thinks he is invincible.
