Imagine your innocent self walking down the street then looking up to colored men, women, and children being beaten, arrested, and yelled at for fighting for their equal rights and freedom. How would you feel? Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy put an end to segregation. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote two remembered writings, “I have a Dream” speech and “Letter from Birmingham.” These two writings, use persuasive rhetorical devices, in “I Have a Dream” speech shows pathos and charged language and “Letter from Birmingham” shows logos or logical appeals. In the speech “I Have A Dream” one of Kings most powerful statements used by charged language is, “Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked “insufficient funds.”” (pg. 262). On the other hand “Letter From Birmingham” focused on the logical appeals, he proved many of his claims and arguments. King’s logical appeals were expressed through devotion and intelligence.
