This documentary is directed by Michael Moore which exposes the dysfunctional health care in United State which provided by profit oriented health maintenance organization (HMO) compare to free health care in country like Canada, England, and France. He interview patient and doctor in the England about cost, quality, and salaries. He also talks about how the government initially refused to pay for the health care for the 9/11 volunteers, because they were not on the government payroll which make it difficult to have a standard health care. In Cuba, access to health care is universal and they spend around $251 per person but in United state health care cost nearly $7,000 per person. The only place in United State that has an excellent health care are the detainees at Guantanamo Bay which there is acute care 24 hours, surgical procedures, everything about health care can be performed right there at the camp. The health industry gave millions of dollars to the eleven elected officials largely credited with the negotiating the bill to be sign in has law what a shame on them that shows how selfish they are to their citizen.
Tears fall from my eyes like it is raining season. I can't help it or control my emotion because it is true but sad to know. What is democracy? Democracy is of the people by the people and for the people. Why did me leave in a nation of me not we? It is time for all Americans to decide it is time to get rid of our present legislators and vote in those that want what we want and prove to us who they say they are. Our Government has allowed these companies that they are invested in heavily. They use threats of not giving them some sort of incentives if they disapprove this of that. The mindset of every living organism is to survive and reproduce. As such, it may be surprising to hear that diseases actually plays a crucial role in the survival of our predecessors. In the book Survival of the Sickest, Dr. Sharon Moalem discusses the role these hereditary disorders played in keeping our very ancestors alive. Three examples mentioned in the reading selection include hemochromatosis, diabetes, as well as favism. All the diseases I mentioned had a specific aspect, to which I found particularly appealing. In the case of hemochromatosis, I found it intriguing how the author used his own life to draw a connection between the two traits. Michael Moore an American filmmaker discusses in his documentary “Sicko” the unpleasant experience some Americans had to go through because of our health care system. Moore implements humor to his documentary by inserting comical music, images, and narration in spots that help his argument gain attention. He also travels abroad to places like Canada, France, and Cuba, where universal health care is supported. He does this in order to provide reason why universal health care is a good ideas by capturing the different emotions and opinions of individuals in those countries versus what people think in America. In addition, Moore provides evidence on why the United States should adopt a different health care system by providing facts like the life expectancy and cost of health care in America compared to other countries. Michael Moore’s main goal is to inform the audience as well as introduce his argument that our health care system is inadequate and that better solutions are out there like universal health care.
The amount of money that is spent on healthcare is a quite a bit of money but about 10% of all the money is a result of some sort of medical fraud or abuse. This is about 120 billion dollars. With HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) medical fraud and abuse can be tracked easier. HIPAA was enacted in august of 1996; this was to help improve the portability and continuity of the health insurance.

The audience explores Moore’s rhetorical strategies and how he represents the issue of health care, with the goal of gaining support from the rest of society for his cause. Michael Moore made this film that has the purpose to especially inform the American audience about the current health system in America and the terrible system created in America that is sometimes deadly. The filmmaker used emotion, reason, creditable people, counter arguments and humor/irony to develop his argument that the American health system is terrible to citizens.
In recent years, the number of Americans who are uninsured has reached over 45 million citizens, with millions more who only have the very basic of insurance, effectively under insured. With the growing budget cuts to medicaid and the decreasing amount of employers cutting back on their health insurance options, more and more americans are put into positions with poor health care or no access to it at all. At the heart of the issue stems two roots, one concerning the morality of universal health care and the other concerning the economic effects. Many believe that health care reform at a national level is impossible or impractical, and so for too long now our citizens have stood by as our flawed health-care system has transformed into an unfixable mess. The good that universal healthcare would bring to our nation far outweighs the bad, however, so, sooner rather than later, it is important for us to strive towards a society where all people have access to healthcare.

Health Insurance is one of the nations top problems, the cost is rising for premiums, and many businesses just cannot afford it. As Americans many of us have the luxury of health insurance, but far too many of us have to go without it. This is something that always seems to brought up at congressional debates, but little is done about it. “In 2013 there were 41 million people reported with out health insurance coverage, this is too many considering those people probably were sick at some point through out the year, and they couldn’t afford treatment.” We need to find someway to make sure that every citizen of the United States is able to have affordable healthcare for themselves, and their families.

The documentary compares the U.S. system with other systems that have a socialist foundation, such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and France. In these countries health care is free and drug costs are low. In the U.S., before receiving treatment, insurance information needs to be collected in order to ensure payment. Our healthcare system has developed into a burden for most people and has terrible consequences for others. It consists of everyone paying for healthcare as a whole, instead of people paying for themselves. This system of healthcare has burdened the people who take care of themselves and have money, but extends the life of people who do not take care of themselves and live in poverty. Sicko provides a good understanding of health care system in the United States. In my opinion, Michael Moore has done a great job in delivering his message. Though, some issues were not picked up in the film such as the amount of taxes people pay in these countries and waiting lists for certain medical treatments like cancer or heart transplant. It is also true that from many other countries people come to America for medical treatments, and this is because they are not being provided proper health care in their home country. However, the film provides a good understanding of the health care concept, and it makes me worried because I don’t have any health insurance.
Former President Bill Clinton introduced a Health Security Proposal in 1993, which was his attempt for a fundamental reform of the American healthcare system (Longest, 2010). In January of 1993, Clinton announced that he would be putting together a team of experts to review the issue of health care cost and develop a plan to propose to congress (Bok, 1998). On September 22, 1993, Clinton then made a speech to Congress announcing this new health plan (Bok, 1993). In his speech, Clinton urged law makers to “Fix a health care system that is badly broken, giving every American health security-health care that is always there, health care that can never be taken away” (Bok, 1993). He also mentioned in his speech that health care was uncertain and too expensive, too wasteful and too bureaucratic- “It has too much fraud and too much greed” (Rample, 2009).

In comparing the average citizen in a democratic nation, say the United States, to that of a non-democratic nation, for instance Egypt, it will be found that the citizen in the democratic nation is generally better off – free of persecution, free from fear of the authorities, and free to express his opinions on governmental matters. And while national conflicts occur everywhere, incidents like violent revolts have shown to be more prevalent in nations where citizens are not allowed to choose who governs them. It is slightly paradoxical that democracy, so inherently flawed in theory, can lead to such successful outcomes in practice. The question, then, becomes: “If democracy has so many weaknesses, why does it work?”
