Sicko, a documentary by activist filmmaker Michael Moore, talks about the health care system in the United States. Stating the struggles of people who are uninsured and people who are insured. Not only the outrageous costs of insurance, but also the enormous profit pharmaceutical companies make out of their medical products people need. Interviewing various patients and doctors alike from across multiple countries such as, The United States, Canada, and United Kingdom, asking them about the cost, quality, and salary of healthcare. Comparing the countries healthcare system and how much the quality differences is between United States and countries with free healthcare. There are multiple ways as to how this can be fixed and existing laws have already helped to stop the pharmaceutical company’s abuse. The government can pass a law that requires the lower cost of prescription drugs so that the average American can actually afford to buy the bare minimum. To enact a legislation that would prohibit the pharmaceutical companies from overpricing their products, having a maximum price range based off the type of drug, how excruciating the process of making the drug, and the materials used for the drug. This will then be regulated further by determining the demand of the drug, whether the people need it occasionally or just when seriously
The Affordable Care Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama on March 2010, offers middle class families more benefits in their healthcare. It ended insurance industry abuses, where it lowered health care costs, gave more choice to the clients, and enhancing the quality of life for All Americans (White house 2). The Patient’s Bill of Rights gave the control of healthcare to the client instead of the insurance company (White House 3). The insurance company no longer was able to deny the coverage request when the client is in need of it (White House 3).
