In the United States of America 72 percent of the police officers are Caucasian, while only 12 percent are African American, according to the United States census bureau. Sadly, when performing research about police brutality, race seems to be a common topic that presents itself. Although, police brutality is not about racism, it is hard to ignore the topic because of the negative publicity police officers are getting in today’s news. One program that has been initiated in some major cities around the country, is the mandatory requirement for police officers to wear a body camera. This program protects officers from violating the code of conduct for law enforcement, and also mitigates potential hostel situations for the police officer. It is easy for a situation to go from bad to worse. Body cameras keeps all partied involve honest, and the data recorded can be utilize to provide additional training to the police officers. The Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Police Services (COPS) stated, body cameras on police officers increase transparency from police and witnesses, with a result of reduced complaints of force used by officers (Fieldstadt par. 7). The use of body cameras have shown to be quite effective and although reports about police brutality is often the headline in our news, violence against police officers is also another serious problem in the USA as well. The FBI preliminary statistic report shows that 51 law enforcement officers were killed in 2014, which is an approximate 89 percent increase from 2013, when 27 deaths was reported, the lowest in 35 years ("FBI — FBI Releases 2014 Preliminary Statistics for Law Enforcement Officers Killed in the Line of Duty" par.
Due to devastating events that have occurred between policemen and civilians; law enforcements find it liable for police officers to be suited with body cameras. In doing so it is thought to bring an increase in trust in the community, reduce brutality and crime, as well as elucidate good cops still around.

When hearing the phrase “police brutality,” many people imagine batons cracking skulls, tasers electrocuting bodies and bullets penetrating innocent teens. While police officers have been known to use violence, police brutality does not occur as often as many believe. In many situations, officers have to act on impulse and curiosity, despite the backlash the media may create.
The researcher hypothesizes that the use of body-cameras on police officers would reduce the instances of gainful communication between civilians and law enforcement. The null-hypothesis is that the use of body-cameras on police officers will have no effect on gainful communication between civilian and law enforcement. In determining the implications of how body-cameras effects civilian behavior, the research will include a sampling survey of criminal justice students and information gathered from journal documents related to research on police body-cameras.
Since their inception, police body cameras have been a controversial topic as many do not agree on their effectiveness and legality. To the trained eye, body cameras clearly have no negatives other than the sheer cost of their implementation. Some people, nonetheless, do believe that it is an encroachment of privacy for police to record private and/or public interactions even though it is purely legal. While that may be seen as a negative, it is wholly subjective and must be completely ignored when considering the factual analysis of police body camera use that is necessary to verify their validity. When only taking fact into account, there is no way to deny the nearly infinite benefits of body cameras.
Police officers should be required to wear body cameras because it will build a trust between law enforcement and the community, it will decrease the amount of complaints against police officers, and lastly it will decrease the amount of police abuse of authority. In addition, an officer is also more likely to behave in a more appropriate manner that follows standard operating procedures when encountering a civilian. “A 2013 report by the Department of Justice found that officers and civilians acted in a more positive manner when they were aware that a camera was present” (Griggs, Brandon). Critics claim that the use of body cameras is invasive of the officers and civilians privacy.
Racism and Police brutality are two key components that affect the lives of young men in America. A number of Black and Hispanic males have been victims of police brutality for many years because they are primary targets due to racism and racially biased law enforcement. The main question is why does police brutality against these specific races occur so frequently?
In America, police brutality affects and victimizes people of color mentally and socially. Social injustice has become a major issue, which involves the principle of white supremacy vs minorities.
