Should people be Prosecuted for Online Piracy?
Online Piracy happens all over the world, from China to the United States. It's mainly common thing so that means that more people will be using piracy to download something. Online Piracy should be a matter for prosecuted. Prosecuted means to institute legal actions against an individual or an organization. I believe that people should be prosecuted for online piracy, due to the fact that it’s considered a crime. Online Piracy can be considered many things and can lead to severe situations such as stealing, getting fined and copying material that doesn’t belong to that person. First of all, one of the leading things that Online piracy can lead to is stealing. Stealing a serious crime because in this case you are going against the copyright that the company had set up for their material. A copyright is a form of protection granted by the laws of the U.S. to the original owner or creator and that grants ownership for that specific material. In a document it mentions that a student was caught with 30 songs downloaded without permission or illegally, was charged 675,000 dollars. This shows that the tolerance for Online Piracy is really low and that's how it should be. For a couple of songs you could be fined a lot money compared to what each song cost. For example, 30 songs would go for a single dollar each so in total it would be 30 dollars. Now compare it to the amount of the charges. It would be a huge difference between each other. This case of Online piracy has got really important that the FBI has set up an advertisement to show the punishments of Online Piracy. The punishment would be up to 5 years in prison and a fine of 250,000
