The idea of freedom and equal opportunity that America was built on has sadly been lost and replaced with a system of quality education only being accessible by the wealthy. In-state college tuition should be free for all students meeting admission requirements, allowing students from the full spectrum of economic backgrounds to have the same opportunity to receive the same education. The incidence of poverty in the U.S. is directly linked to educational level. When a college degree is earned, income levels rise (College Board). The best use of federal government anti-poverty funds is not another welfare or assistance program; it is to make college education affordable for everyone.
“Meanwhile, on the spending side, you’d cut back on healthcare for the poor, on the quality of public education and on state aid for higher education.” (390) Talking about education, people want to upgrade the quality of public education. It is not a bad action to do it but thinking of people who could not afford with a large amount of money, staying home would be the only choice for them. Seeing the children could not have education at the age they suppose to do, which means their futures become unenlightened and gloomy. Having no education leads to thinking of giving up on life. They would follow the bad path in life and think inside the box negatively. Moreover, all they do is helping their parents by doing the same job. Giving education to children especially the lower class is as same as providing them new ideas and new opportunities; like a whole new world for them. Therefore, they could innovate ideas and make their dreams come
In The Story of the Education Dollar, Odden, Monk, Nakib and Picus describe some basic facts about education spending in the United States to facilitate an understanding of the level and uses of the federal government's policies on education funding. The purpose of the authors' discussion is to argue that public education facilities need to change their focus on the consumption of educational resources to a focus on producing high levels of student achievement. They contend that such a redirection in focus will require large improvements in student achievement, given that only about 10 percent of students currently attain the desired level of achievement across the board in mathematics, science, writing, history, geography and civics. James Traub expands on their discussion to argue for the necessary inclusion of after-care activities for inner-city youth in any successful educational spending program.
For most young Americans, college has always been preached to them as being a vital part to their success in the adult world; but as they reach this educative rite of passage many find they must take out inflated loans, work part time jobs, or even become dissuaded entirely due to the exorbitant costs of higher education. We must forsake this current antiquated system in favor of government subsidized tuition. Therefore, college education must be free because of its benefit to the economy, creation of equal opportunity, and the resolution of the student loan crisis.
Regardless of the school, public or private, finances play a major role in its survival. While school districts and schools struggle to survive amid the ongoing and strenuous standards for success, provisions must still be made to ensure that these entities are financially sound (Hall, 2006). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the ramifications of school finance litigation and practice in the state of Florida. In addition, this paper will be used to research the historical evolution of educational finance and explain the most significant paradigm shifts that have taken place in Florida. Finally, this paper will be designed to evaluate the ways current financial decisions resulting from recent litigation have shaped the educational environment and its outcomes. For this purpose, recent litigation and events in Florida will be used to support these claims.
Even in this time of struggle, with billions of dollars going towards various war efforts overseas, America still has managed to keep taxpayer investments in education higher than that of funds for national defense (U.S Department of Education). In the 2004-05 school year, there was an estimated amount of 536 billion dollars set aside from taxpayer investment for education purposes. Without a doubt, education is a priority for the American government, and if these funds are used in the correct way, there is no reason why each and every kid in the United States shouldn’t be getting a quality education. However, the organization of the financial system is flawed, funds are not handled proportionately at the state level; rather, this system favors the wealthier districts and hands more funds to them while the less wealthier districts are handed a smaller pool of funds. This really affects America’s quality of education, which also reflects upon how America fairs on the world stage when it comes to competition in education with other countries. The disorganization of funds in the United States can be seen in the Hoover City School district, which has bought every student in that district an iPad for use in school. The first problem with this is that this school district does not even have a viable bus system that can transport students to and from school. Secondly, not even 20 miles from this district lies the Birmingham City School district where a little more than half the students are graduating, compared to Hoover City Schools where a bit more than 90 percent of the students are graduating. If anything, the state should be working towards improving educational standards in lower-income communities rather than debating on the log...
The United States is a free country. Some talk has been stirring in the U.S. over whether education should be a privilege or a right. In my opinion, I believe that education should be a right in the United States. Some of my thoughts on why I believe education should be a right is because the U.S. is a democracy so our education should be a right. Education helps people socialize and meet new people, and education helps students become prepared for the work force.
College is a very expensive cost for students. There are many different points that contribute to whether college should be free or not. Because of this, there are many different arguments for and against free college. College should not be free for students because it would result in more problems, just because it is considered free does not mean it is free, and because professionals agree.
...r government and help reduce the income gap that exists today. Overall the government can help narrow this income gap in many ways if they tried.
College stresses a person to use his or her critical thinking skills and it’s key that he or she use it without the cost. Without a person’s critical thinking skills they could not get through every day. Critical thinking is an important tool for humans to master. College works on that skill so that when the students graduate from there, they can use those skills to make more educated and responsible decision. Not everyone would have the chance to work on their critical thinking skills if college has a price. As humans we want to advance in our lives knowing and experiencing all the possibilities that life has to offer. College is among those possibilities. Every human should be able to go to one, whether they are financially tight or not. To prohibit someone from going just isn’t fair nor is it right.
There are many different factors that affect education. One such factor is, socioeconomic status. Children who attend school in a wealthier community receive a better education than those students in poor communities. In poor communities, student’s education is not only affected by a lack of resources, but also from teaching methods and philosophies. Urban and poor schools’ students do not receive as equal of an education as their more affluent and suburban counterparts do.
I think today's situation in Germany is not nearly as bad as the situation in
School can be frustrating for students. Going to school, doing homework, and then repeating it all over again the next day can become quite tedious. Especially when one feels as if they are not gaining anything from doing well in school, it causes students to have very little motivation to complete their schoolwork. Students might be motivated if there was some sort of incentive for attending school and doing well at it. A law should be passed that requires students to be paid for doing well in school because it gives them motivation, helps them with financial issues, and allows them to learn how to manage money more effectively.
Limitations are everywhere, but the one place there should not be any limits are in education, and that is why the government should allow everyone to acquire a college education. There are many countries in the world that are suffering because they only contain knowledge to get by from day by day basis. In the United States, there are many resources for education, but Some people are born into a poor families and can’t afford college. So they cannot support their family. However, if they had money or an education they would at least lead an enhanced life. First of all, college education is not only costly, but it is also increasing. Second students who acquired a higher grade point average must have an opportunity for a college education, and lastly the citizens of the United States and its economy will benefit from free education.
