Should Embryonic Stem Cell Research Be Banned Essay

The use of embryonic stem cell research should be banned all together. To get embryonic stem cells, one has to extract the stem cells directly from the embryo before the embryo begins to mature. These kinds of stem cells can be kept alive when they are grown in cultures. When they are grown in cultures, the stem cells double every 2-3 days. Advocates against embryonic stem cell research believe that human life starts at conception, and this kind of stem cell research requires the killing of the embryo. This means that a human life is killed. Advocates believe that this is murder. Embryos in a sense are humans that deserve the same rights that human beings do. This means that the destruction of an embryo for research is unethical and immoral. Many religious people are the ones against the use of this kind of stem cell research, and the reasons why allow people to know how wrong it is to use embryos for stem cell research. To add how the use of stem cell research on embryos is wrong, Pope John Paul II said in his address to the growing issues, “A free and virtuous society, which America aspires to be, must reject practice that devalue and violate human life at any stage from conception until natural death” Human life starts

There are two other kinds of stem cell research that are both safer to use and make more sense than the use of embryos. The other two types of stem cells used in stem cell research are adult cells and cord cells. Adult cells are abundant in bone marrow, meaning there will always be adult cells to use for research. Results from using adult cells have been nothing but positive, and there are promising results for future research on adult cells.
