“Some 10,000 children are housed in adult jails and prisons on any given day in America.” One of the most controversial questions is should Juvenile criminals be tried as adults or not. The amount of children in adult prisons are rising. It’s not always the children's fault for their poor choices; half of the time they are influenced by their environment or parents. Children who are way too young to see and R rated movie without a parent or guardian are being sent to adult prisons. The laws that will send children to an adult prison is barbaric, corrupt, and unfair. Adult prisons are also very dangerous for minors, and would lead to more crimes. One of the reasons that people support sending juveniles to adult prisons is that they believe that it will help protect society, and that one a child is sent to an adult prison that they are out of the way. Another reason is that they think that the child cannot be saved and they need to be locked up forever. Most people think that once they enter the adult facility that when they leave they will not commit the same crime or any crimes at all. These reasons all seem to be true but sadly they're not. State and federal laws say that once they're sent to prison that they must be kept out of sight and sound of any adult prisoners. Once they are in the prisons there is no separate place for children. It is inhumane, because they are often placed in some of the harshest conditions in the state. Although they are out of harm's way from the adult prisoners, the conditions can do physiological harm to children. Studies show that children who are held in prisons are eight times more likely to commit suicide than children held in juvenile detention
