The overall story is about a man named Guy Montag. Guy is a fireman in a futuristic world who instead of putting out fires he starts them. Guy enjoys his job and doesn't question it until he meets a young 17 year old named Clarisse McClellan. She opens his eyes to his unusual job and Guy begins to question his life. The next few days after meeting Clarisse, Montage experiences a series of disturbing events. His wife tried to committing suicide by eating a bottle of sleeping pills. Then he responds to a call, were a old women refuse to leave her books and stayed in the house causing her death of being burned alive. Then Montag hears that Clarisse died from a hit and run. But she rather watch tv, and tells him why should he risk reading books. As well as states how stupid and pointless it was. Montag didn't understand her logic, and turns to a retired English professor named Faber, who he remember meeting at a park. Faber tells Montag his passion for books, and how they are not evil but good. Faber then tells Montag that he needs not only books, but also the leisure to read them, and the freedom to act upon their ideas. Montag and Faber then plots a risky scheme to overthrow the status quo (similar to governmental control group that oversees everything in the book). The plan is for faber to contact a printer and begin reproducing books. Montag will then plant books in the homes of firemen to discredit the profession and to destroy censorship. Faber then gives Montag a two way radio earpiece called the “green bullet” so he can hear what Montag and talk to him secretly. Montag is now home and his wife has a few friends over. They were watching tv and talking about the war that was about to be declared. Montag angered because of the carefree talk about the war, Montag then takes out a book named “Dover Beach” by Matthew Arnold and starts reading it to them. His wife trying to cover up Montag’s book reading, saying it was a standard way for firemen to demonstrate the uselessness of literature. But Montag then finds that a new mechanical hound is after him, and as well as a few helicopters. Montag then learns that Faber is leaving for St. Louis to see a retired printer, who may be able to help them. Montag gives Faber some money, and tells him how to remove Montag’s scent from his house. Montag then grabs Farber’s old clothes to hide his scent as well, and heads to the river. Montag is caught by the helicopter, and on national T.V. Montag is in a big chase. But manages to escape. He then finds a railroad track, and follows it till he finds a group known as “the book people”. The leader named Granger, welcomes Montag. Montag then follows there believe, and has the responsibility to memorize books and philosophies. They believe if they memorize literature, that they can help the world, after the aftermath of the war. Then jets appear in the sky, and from a far Montag watches as the once city, he called home gets obliterated by bombs. The book then ends with Montag and his new friends move to the disaster site to find any survivor and rebuild
