Monday or Tuesday A envelope was missing from coach Anthony William office . I explain to her I was picking up garbage and Harry was running the sweeper. I did see an envelope, not sure what office . Harry said he has seen the envelope and put on coach Anthony desk. She repeatedly asked if Harry or I went back in the office. Would they find are fingerprints on the envelope. When Harry was called Back to the Police Department He took union steward Scott . During that time Harry filling a police report out Alison was winking at Scott . This is not funny, we are routinely harasse with Julie Godzik Police dispatcher monitoring video cameras and relays information on cameras to her Husband Robert Godzik to cause a hostile work environment. I know this because every time I take the garbage to dumpster near police station, Julie comes out of Police Station Looking at me offensively or making slurs at me about where to hide from cameras. Wihin a couple of minutes William Franicola checking on us. Harry asked want he wanted commenting he was here to check wheels on carts. I witnessed William was checking the wheels on cart weeks ago after the Taste of Westmorland Event. Cop in the Hood has taught me a lot about how police work in a city really is. The chapter titled “911 is a Joke” intrigued me the most, for mostly two reasons. First the story at the beginning of the chapter really put perspective on how some people really live in the inner cities and how a police officer would have to react to the situation. Secondly, growing up in a middle class suburb I was always taught the 911 was only to be called in a time of emergency. It was a sacred number that I had never had to call. Me and my friends would joke on each other and type “911” on our flip phones and threaten to call, but never will. When Moskos said the 911 was a joke I was taken back by it because it when against everything I was taught.

Getting a police ride along isn’t the easiest form of interview to get. It took me a two week process so I can set up a date to do a ride along. The process includes a background check and the reason why I wanted to do a ride along. The officer gave a strict dress code that I had to follow for that day. Disparate treatment is a form of discrimination that is prohibited by laws in which all employers must comply, including fire and emergency services. Disparate treatment in the workplace is applicable to many functions of the workplace, including, discipline, promotions, hiring, firing, benefits, layoffs, and testing (Varone, 2012). The claim of disparate treatment arises when a person or group “is treated differently because of a prohibited classification” (Varone, 2012, p. 439). In the 2010 case, Lewis v. City of Chicago, six plaintiffs accused the city of disparate treatment following testing for open positions within the Chicago Fire Department (Lewis v. City of Chicago, 2010). The case is based on the argument that the Chicago Fire Department firefighter candidate testing, which was conducted in 1995, followed an unfair process of grouping eligible candidates, therefore discriminating against candidates of African-American descent.

I participated in a police ride-along with the Fairfax County Police Department on October 30th. I chose the Fair Oaks District Station for the ride since my home falls within that particular district’s boundaries. At 8 p.m., I was introduced to Officer Crutchman; the police officer I would be accompanying for the night. We headed out after a brief overview of some safety rules and expectations. Over the course of the shift I was able to observe many of the routine duties of a FCPO such as responding to calls, setting speed traps, performing traffic stops, assisting fellow officers, and patrolling neighborhoods and public parks. Police reports are read by supervisors, police chiefs, fellow officers as well as other criminal justice professionals. Furthermore these documents are written to display the result of an investigation, crimes scene, incidents, and more so it is imperative that there is no grammar errors or misspellings with in the document. Police report writers paint the picture of the events that took place from the time they were called until, the time of their arrival to a crime scene or incident. It’s important that all reports submitted by correctional workers and police officer be well-written with factual information giving step by step details of everything that transpired in chronological order also being very specific about every detail. The reason this is of high important is because this report can assist prosecutor in obtaining a valid conviction of the proper suspect accused (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Whereas if the police report is poorly written the defense can argue against the finding and may use the discrepancies against the prosecuting state. When poorly written reports are enter into evident for juries to deliberate on it a huge possibility that the report may cause jurors to call into to question whether the officer who wrote it is as careless in other aspects of their police work. as noted by (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Another issue that will occur if reports are not properly written is miscommunications or misunderstanding. For example a police officer submits a document with only one misspelled words to his police chief, the chief read the report from the officer he put decrease instead of the deceased and cause the chief to send the report the wrong department.
Officers put their life on the line every time they put on their uniform. Protecting the community from harm and risking their own lives and that’s what people forget. Yes, there are bad cops out there but there are also a lot of good ones too that don’t get recognized because there is so much attrition to the people doing wrong in this world. There are so many things that go on when it comes to arresting someone who is strung out on drugs the officers have taken caution cause of the exposure to infectious diseases, the violence, and the actions of the offender that turns into deadly force from both the officers and suspect.
In any given setting, police officers are responsible for maintaining order within a, sometimes overly chaotic, society. They are given the responsibility of acting as protectors of the defenseless and upholding justice, at the risk of injury to themselves or even the loss of their own life.
