In a typical television show, there are stunts that are not usually performed by the actual actors, there are lights/shading, filters, scripts. In normal American culture, there are no lights,camera, or action scenes; although some people may act as if they are in reality television show. A foreign person watching American TV for the first time, just one hour, might summarize their experience seeing people in reality tv shows as shallow and materialistic people. However, that's not an accurate portrayal of Americans since many of these stars fill in the role of a stereotype to provide entertainment and boost ratings. These shows doesn't majority of American's doing their everyday activities. Segments are edited and combined so the general public only sees what the producers air. In addition, news shows may often seem biased and their influence affects public and political opinions of viewers. …show more content…

The television programs that I watch are Modern Family a network show that deals with things like family structure and interpersonal problems and Shameless a series on Showtime that deals with more mature themes such as alcoholism and unemployment, and poverty. Certain themes show up more readily in Shameless versus The Modern Family and these shows are depictions of the America's class system. For Shameless, the themes that would jump out to a viewer are cycles of poverty and lack of social mobility. For example, when Lip was about to get kicked out of college since he couldn't afford pay his tuition bill, he begged the financial aid officer and told him that if he were to return back home, he would get into the criminal lifestyle that his family is involved in and he's doesn't want that. By watching that scene, a viewer can emphasize on how difficult it is to escape the criminal life in the U.S.
