Business Services, Inc. is based in Nebraska which is a state without laws pertaining to sexual harassment training. Although training is not mandatory, the company will provide sexual harassment training as a best practice to provide a safe and secure place of employment for all employees.
Sexual harassment in the workplace violates federal law and involves serious moral, ethical, and social concerns. This type of toxic behavior can cause psychological distress in the victim, reduce productivity and profitability, and lead to legal claims against the harasser and company alike. Once certified, the human resource staff will train each department of the company. There will not be a separate management training for this policy. The manager of each department will receive training and participate with their department. The goal of Business Services, Inc. is to eliminate any sense of hierarchy or top-down approach to addressing sexual harassment. Therefore, the training will include both knowledge and behavioral change information. Presentations and brief lectures will be used to impart the knowledge; along with discussions pertaining to missed cues or awkward exchanges. It might be difficult for employees to openly discuss sexual harassment concerns, so it is likely a trainer will have to be prepared to ask specific questions to engage the trainees. Ultimately, if behavior change is necessary the message will need to be clear to end the behavior. Case studies can be a relevant way to represent what is viewed as harassment and how to analyze what occurred to label the behavior as harassing.
