Sexual assault is a type of sexual violence that applies to an unwanted sexual activity and define as penetration of the victim’s against their will. Sexual assault can force women in the campus into non-consensual sexual acts: manipulation, emotional coercion, or psychological force. The reasons that prevent the harassment is important for victims to realize that sexual assault is a common problem on the college campus because sexual assaults can affect victims’ lives by causing emotional, psychological, and physical reactions. Women should know their limits and realize that alcohol intoxication can make them more vulnerable to assault by inhibiting ability to defending from the attacker. When women get a bad feeling about a location or a person, they should start walking in the nearest crowd or building. Women could have reasons to stick with friends in the building: attend a social gathering with friends whom they know and trust, look out for each other and make sure the group are safe, and never go out alone in the campus or dorm. Women should have contacted the authorities, get to a safe place, and get medical attention if they are being assaulted. As seniors in high school are committed to colleges and getting excited for some of the best years of their lives, they are preparing for early classes, late nights and good times. These teens have been looking forward to these years that have seemed to come so fast. Of course they’re getting excited about picking their dream job and looking forward to meeting life long friends that they should be able to trust. No one thinks about or mentions the number of rapes on college campuses. If the first thing colleges mentioned was the reported rapes on their campuses, would that change the minds of kids that have had a certain college in mind? Besides the reported date rapes, what about the estimated sexual assaults that go unreported? Knowing the facts and statistics about colleges and how they handle sexual assault cases would make anyone getting ready for college think twice about how safe they’re being and who they are trusting.
Women’s issues are a huge concern to me as I transition into the adult world, especially when sexual assaults are associated with the college culture. From the streets of America to a child bride in Africa, women are suffering from abuse, harassment, and mistreatment. The feminist movement has enhanced life for women, but, in modern society, there are many areas that still need improvement. If we want to resolve issues over the treatment of women, we must tackle and overcome negative views of women, take preventive measures to ensure the safety of women, and bring attention to these injustices.

Every semester, a student attending a college campus will have at some point experience some inappropriate, unwanted attention. There is always someone at school who tends to make someone uncomfortable, be it through eye contact, persistent advances, or just uncalled for innuendos. Of course, we do our best to ignore it, or to just report the bothersome activity, but that can only do so much without someone finding a way around such things. Someone is always going the extra mile to get what he or she wants, even if it’s at the expense of the victim. In this analysis, I intend to outline the theories of General Crime theory and Routine Activities Theory in accordance to sexual harassment and how they apply to victimization on a college campus.
