Seventeen Year Old Nadine Nadine from the movie The Edge of Seventeen is a seventeen year old girl that is in high school. Nadine doesn't have many friends, she met her best friend Krista when she was in elementary school and they have been inseparable ever since. Nadine doesn't have her own place yet, she lives with her mother Mona and older brother Darian. Her brother Darian assists the same high school she does, however, they have their differences. Darian seems to be extroverted and quite popular, while Nadine is more on the introverted side. 1061). Nadine showed the formal operational stage when she sent that embarrassing text to her crush. She thought about all the outcomes of her crush receiving that text. Moreover, I believe in one of the scenes she doesn’t demonstrate formal operational stage. Nadine’s professor tells her how she annoys him and tells her she has no friends. I believe the correct way for Nadine to reply to her professor would be by asking why he has those feelings towards her, and if she has done anything to make him feel that way. On the other hand, Nadine replies to him in a rudely manner, pointing out all of his flaws, and stating how she actually hates the class. Nadine’s father passed away in the car right next to her. At times it seems that Nadine feels that she is to blame for his death, or that she could’ve done something to save him. I think a way to solve this problem is for Nadine to see a therapist, or for her mother and brother to speak about this concern with her. Her mother and brother don’t really like to mention their father which just causes Nadine to repress these feelings. Another problem Nadine is struggling with is the intimate relationship she is trying to be in. Nadine made the mistake of picking a boy based on his looks. She never took the time to actually get to know, and later on in the movie he proved to be a jerk. Nadine needs to talk to guys who show respect towards her, and also share hobbies with her. Looks aren’t everything, especially if she wants an honest and real relationship. I believe an easy way for Nadine to meet someone is through her brother.
