The main participants of the Sermon on the Mount were Jesus and his disciples. With various sayings that we have come to see and hear in everyday life, this is probably the best part of the teachings of Jesus. It may be known by many, but it can also be categorized as being widely misunderstood by most and is not always the portion that is observed in its entirety. The teachings Jesus is teaching to disciples are organized into verses. The major theme of the teaching involves moral teachings concerning the people who are blessed where he explains their rewards. In every section Jesus explains the kind of person who is blessed and the reward that he or she will get in return for their obedience. The poetic passages that were stated are poetic but not in the same sense as we have come to see poetry today. It is much rather verses that are meant to intertwine with each other to paint a picture than anyone from any background can understand and fully interpret on their own. When Matthew wrote it down, it was meant to be historical for future generations to read it and soak it in. The questions in the sermon make the reader want to “ask” themselves the kind of way or life which is in line with Christianity. The questions that Jesus is asked normally have insights on the spiritual experiences. The linkage of the sermon is the book of Luke where the same teaching was taught on the plain by Jesus. The use of any verb is made to clarity the teachings and has the disciples understand them. There are no imperative sentences in the teachings. Jesus wants to appear as a friend and not controlling in any manner. Appearing as a friend and in a calming nature would make more people want to take the time to understand and listen. However, if there were more imperative sentences in the sermon, there may have been some form of a backlash because there would be those that would have felt as though it was being pushed on them rather than them coming around and understanding it for
