For my sequence analysis I am going to be doing a scene from the animated movie Tangled directed by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno. The movie is about Rapunzel a girl who has long hair and has spent her whole life in a tower one day a runaway thief has stumbled upon her. The scene/sequence that I am going to be analyzing from the movie is at the end where the main character starts to realizes her true identity. In this one scene I noticed several; things having to do with mise-en-scene/cinematography. The scene starts out with a closeup of Rapunzel’s mother hand as she takes flowers out of Rapunzel (the main characters) hair. The whole scene is in a very glum and dark color palette. There is a tiny light coming from a window at the top I presume …show more content…

The same goes for Mother Gothel she always is in the dark even if it’s a light spot in the house. That being said even though the whole scene is very dark and gloomy Mother Gothel still seems to stand out as it seems as though she is a little bit darker than the whole scene. The director I thought did this again to just good/evil so that they audience would really know who is good in the situation. Another point that could be said is that Rapunzel is always “pure” and “innocent”especially with her spending her whole life in a tower so the light could symbolize that she is the pure one. Then with Mother Gothel her intentions have always been bad and not good so that is why she is always in the dark especially with this …show more content…

This foreshadowing to his impending doom. Meanwhile there is music in the background but it is very light and if you weren’t paying attention you wouldn’t have noticed it otherwise. The director I think shows this in the way that he does because they wanted to make it more dramatic as well as show what is happening to Flynn Rider but also continuing on with the scene. Mostly I think this was done to manly be dramatic/ add dramatics to the scene. Another thing I wanted to point out towards the end of the scene is that when Mother Gothel is reaching to pat Rapunzel’s head it focuses in on her hand then Rapunzel grabs her hand. I thought this was interesting because I thought that it added more to the scene as it seems like the turning point in which Rapunzel will no longer let Mother Gothel use her hair anymore. This is what I think the director was going for anyways. As in I think the director was going for/ trying to show the turning point in the story by doing this zooming into her hand. I noticed that every time it does a zoom into something with this clip it’s to show the significant of what’s to come or to the item.
