In the year of 1954; the US wanted Senator Joseph McCarthy gone. The reasoning behind this is he was on two counts for conduct. He was in trouble for financial affairs, abuse of members, and insults to the Senate. The senate had sparked a debate over the trial and nobody was on McCarthy’s side. I think the article shows this idea very well. Throughout the article it tells you about his condemnation and how he tried to defend himself. I definitely agree with the idea of the article showing you that McCarthy was a bad guy. McCarthy hurt many of those in the Department that were all innocent. What he did was awful and I don't totally agree with them keeping him in office after his trial was over. He didn’t deserve another chance! What really intrigued me about this article is that the department had no clue that he was accusing many innocent people. How did he have the evidence to actually let many lose their jobs? It doesn’t make any sense to me especially after he was condemned for financial affairs, abuse of members, etc. I know I wouldn’t have believed anything that came out of his mouth. In the article that the idea of McCarthyism is compared to the Crucible. I have to agree with that, and it is a perfect example. In the Crucible Abby is exactly like Joseph. They both decide to accuse innocent people that had nothing to do with their wants. McCarthyism was an awful idea and I hope no one ever decides to try it
