In “Out of the Dust,” a story told by 14-year-old Billie Jo, she describes her grief and feelings of lost hope including guilt from the accidental death of her mother and her mother’s unborn child. The accident crushed Billie Jo’s hope and her spirit, as well her father’s. It is a story of remarkable struggle where Billie Jo tries to find inner strength. She seeks the light through the Oklahoma “dust”. The “dust” is symbolic as it signifies a lack of life, dreams, and hope. Billie Jo takes the reader through her emotional of the journey that evokes compassion and empathy. The reader becomes part of the story and part of Billie Jo’s persona. Her journey embraces whom we are in the most profound sense of sadness and loss of her beloved mother. The story also guides us through the powerful enlightenment that defines the clearest explanation of the human spirit. In “Out of the Dust” Billie Jo demonstrates the power of forgiveness in herself and her father. These acts of forgiveness allowed her to move past the darkness and into the light. Her story gives the reader details on how the human spirit is philanthropic by nature and a lifelong process. “Out of the Dust” captures the essence of forgiveness including the transformations that occur during the process.

The use of the word Love is seen 15 times in Deuteronomy which shows the importance of love towards not only our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, the love we are to extend to our neighbor, the love we have for the Lord and of course the love the Lord freely gives to us. In the Old Testament the evidence of God’s love is seen repeatedly. In Deuteronomy 6:4-5 the passage is taken from perhaps the most well known Old Testament passage that is later referenced in the New Testament. The true test of strength in a person is marriage. Throughout the play Othello, Desdemona is regarded as a strong, independent woman with a sharp tongue and the ability to stand up for herself. She defies the stereotypical mold of a wife during the 17th century, and is not merely an obedient servant of Othello, but a strong life partner with her own ideas and personality. Her passionate, yet rushed relationship to the Moor, Othello, gives readers the opportunity to discover whether or not Desdemona’s strength allows her to achieve her superobjective in the entire play: to maintain a happy, loving relationship with her husband, or if her strength becomes a hindrance.
Compassion is a type of meditation therapy which is used recently. As a new topic, at least for me, this encouraged me to learn about this topic and gave me the idea for my paper. Compassion has many definitions, one of these definitions is the feeling that emerges in witnessing another's suffering and that motivates a following desire to help (Goetz, Keltner, & Thomas, 2010). Hofmann, Grossman, and Hinton (2011) describe compassion as a path leading to greater awareness, aimed to focus awareness upon alleviation of the suffering of all sensitive beings. Moreover, compassion is thought to have arisen as the affective element of a caregiving system, designed to help raise vulnerable progeny to the age of viability (Goetz, Keltner, & Thomas, 2010).
Throughout the play, Hamlet demonstrates many performances and words of nobility in Acts 1 through 5. Hamlet proved to be loyal and respective to his parents, and disapproves the use of violence. In addition, other character such as Ophelia, Laertes, and Horatio declares Hamlet as “noble”. By the end of the play, Hamlet emerges as a young noble prince; albeit a tragic one.

Everyone lived in complete Sameness, and never learned what it meant to be an individual. By eliminating as much self expression as possible in Sameness and society, Jonas's community has rejected the individuality of a society where people are free to move society forward. In The Giver individuality is represented by colors, memories, and pale eyes.
When most people think of love, they imagine a beautiful concept, one of which is and should be a part of life. Some will imagine the unconditional love of God, others will picture a spouse or family members, and some may even think about materialistic things. While there are many ways in which love can be defined as, it usually has positive connotations. This is not necessarily the case in Lewis’ novel Till We Have Faces, at least through the character Orual. Love is a major theme in the novel and is portrayed in both a humanly and a divine way. The humanly love which Lewis displays is mainly shown through Orual and is demonstrated as a perverse love. The divine love is presented through Psyche and is portrayed as selfless. Self-esteem is a personality trait that describes a person’s stable overall perception of personal value or self-worth. This is essential to human growth as it affects relationships, a person’s ability to work, and nearly all parts of life. Children’s development of positive self-esteem is extremely important as it allows for character building such as giving the child the chance to improve on mistakes without fearing rejection from peers. Parents have an extensive role in developing children’s self-esteem due to the limited number of outside factors that could affect a child’s opinions and self-evaluation. Through supportive and motivational parenting a child can develop a high self-esteem that causes them to be more successful
One of the biggest areas of study in the class looks at the self. There are many situations that cause individuals to act differently. One of the biggest and repetitive is how individuals act in a fraternity house. No matter the gender, everyone acts very different in these houses then they would at church. Mead, Goffman and Hochschild look at the self through different lenses but they conclude that there is a lack of self. Everyday people conform to societies many situation which dictates individual’s actions while continuously stripping them of their own self.

Some people believe that there is no such thing as “true love” they believe that love is nothing but an illusion designed by social expectations. These people believe that love ultimately turns into pain and despair. This idea in some ways is true. Love is not eternal it will come to an end one way or another, but the aspect that separates true love from illusion, is the way love ends. “True Love” is much too powerful to be destroyed by Human imperfection; it may only be destroyed by a force equal to the power of love. Diotima believed that “Love is wanting to posses the good forever” In other words love is the desire to be immortal and the only way that we are able to obtain immortality is through reproduction, and since the act of reproduction is a form of sexual love, then sexual love is in fact a vital part of “True love”. Sexual love is not eternal. This lust for pleasure will soon fade, but the part of love that is immortal, is a plutonic love. You can relate this theory to the birth of love that Diotima talks about. She says that love was born by a mortal mother and immortal father. The mother represents the sexual love, the lust for pleasure. The father represents the plutonic love that is immortal. Plutonic love is defined as a true friendship, the purest of all relationships. A true plutonic love will never die; it transcends time, space, and even death.
Love is an assortment of emotions, states, and dispositions that range from interpersonal affections. It can also be a virtue representing human graciousness, sympathy, and friendship. Among all types of love, family love is undoubtedly the most important. In the novel, although the concept of love and caring are expressed indirectly through one’s thoughts and actions, it can easily be noticed.
For this assignment I decided to pick a top strength to further embrace and a lower strength to work on making better. My second highest ranking on the assessment and the strength I chose to further embrace was kindness and generosity. This character strength is characterized as being kind to others and happy to do favors for anyone even if you don’t know them well. The second strength I chose to focus on was my absolute bottom strength: Forgiveness and Mercy. This is characterized as not holding a grudge or seeking revenge but rather letting the feud settle and forgiveness and mercy overcome you. The week I spent working on these strengths had many ups and downs but I feel as though they ultimately came to a successful conclusion and a place where I can continue to grow from.
