Self Control In 'Lamb To The Slaughter'

Self control is an important attribute to have as a person. To be able to control yourself and not act out in certain situations is crucial to being calm and keeping things serene. In the short story “Lamb To The Slaughter” by Roald Dahl, many dramatic events happened. To begin with, Mary Malone was waiting weirdly and excited by the door anticipating her husband coming home. The moment Mr. Maloney got arrived, he had some bad news to tell. Mrs. Maloney had a dreadful reaction, lost control, and killed her husband with the leg of lamb acting like nothing happened. Later, she had the investigators themselves eat the murder weapon. The importance of the story is that you need to have self control or else bad things could go wrong that you might regret later.
Early on in the story, Mrs. Maloney was acting unlike the regular human. The author states, “The room was warm, the curtains were close, the two tables …show more content…

She was still affected by the incident and decided to feed the murder weapon to the detectives themselves.“ ‘Please’ she begged. ‘Personally I couldn’t eat anything, but it would be a favor to me if you ate it up.’ ”(Pg.4) She begged them to eat it and bluffed that she couldn’t eat anything at the moment. She could have controlled herself and been honest about what she had done and not hide the murder weapon by having the detectives eat it. Self control could have kept her from acting in this foul way and could have prevented many events that happened in this short story.
As you can see, self control is a very important asset to have that is very noticeable in The Lamb To Slaughter. Mary Malone’s actions could have been prevented if she had self control, used it, and showed it. Everybody's lives in this world are important and self control can help save and keep lives great and happy. Self control isn’t just important in yourself, but is important in everything around
