Describe self-concept. My take on self-concept is that it is my self-image or basically my ego. What I feel about myself and what I know about myself. My knowledge and I have learned about myself, the positive and the negative. The me that was defined by my surroundings, peers, parents, culture, race, all that put together and mixed up is me and my self-concept.
Explain the role self-concept plays in ethical communication. Ethics in communication is basically that people get their messages from what we tell them. If we are giving them unethical information or communication, then what does that say about our self-concept. Include what are the guidelines, one example of how you would apply a guideline, and why these guidelines help with effective communication. I feel that a great one is to Distinguish Between the Facts and Inferences. Always double check and make sure that you are being factual and not assuming something about someone or something. Always double check to make sure before jumping to conclusions that can come back on you. If I am on a team with a couple other people and one does not seem to be pulling their third of the weight, I will not assume they are lazy. I will ask them if they are doing ok and maybe a few other questions. There may be something going on at home that is affecting their work, or they are struggling with the assignment and just need a little help. This way you will all still be working good as a team and come together as a team. No one will feel overpowered or underused and left out. Another one is to avoid Mind Reading. If you are not sure about something or someone ask them, do not think you know what they want. We can never truly understand what a person is feeling, needing, or wanting unless we ask them. A boss asks you to set for a dinner party but does not explain anything. You cannot read their mind to know what kind, how many people, etc. about the party unless you ask. If you try to do it without asking you will more than likely not get it right. This way there is no embarrassment at the party because something was not done correctly or done at
