Several various ethnicities have been under oppression in the United States since its establishment in the late 18th century. One of the races who had been enduring all throughout these years are the Hispanics, whose origins come back all the way from the Native Americans who had occupied the southern part of North America. The state of Texas was one with deep culture deriving mostly from Mexico due to the time it has spent with the country prior to the Mexican American War. The belief of white supremacy within the Anglos was bolstered especially right after the defeat of Mexico, and with the annexation of Texas, thousands of Hispanic residents had no other choice but to become a part of the United States. One of her efforts was giving to a charity auction with the help of Charity Buzz. Afterwards, she posted a tweet through Twitter, urging her followers to join her cause and donate to support the people who have been affected by tornadoes in Alabama ("Selena Gomez Contributes to Charity Auction for Tornado Victims"). She then participated with the ENOUGH Project and visited Congo to see for herself the hardships that the Congolese are experiencing due to war, poverty, and abuse of natural resources. She also made an announcement with Kermit the Frog, giving people an insight to the current situation of endangered amphibians and how half of their population would die out if no one took action ("Selena Gomez: Charity Work & Causes"). She joins the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as the youngest ambassador in their history in hopes that she may be able to leave longer impact on the children’s lives. The article states, “She said that she was "extremely excited" to "encourage other kids to make a difference in the world" ("Selena Gomez"). One of the numerous trips she had taken with the organization was at Nepal. Her main goal was to raise awareness to the children who have been lacking basic needs within poor countries all around the world. Meeting with many people in the village of Kolhapur, she commutes with the natives who have been put in troubling situations, but with the help of UNICEF, were able to take back their normal lives. In the article, Selena states, “It was amazing to learn from these young boys and girls about how they are influencing their peers as well as adults on issues that have an impact on their lives.
