The PESTEL framework was chosen to analyze the organization’s macro environment and to identify how future issues, such as political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors might affect the organization. Hereby, it is important to mention that not all factors have been considered, as they lack relevance for the analysis of the Church of Scientology International.

Economically, the organization seems to be thriving well with the targeted influential parties. The company seems to thrive and is not entirely affected by harsh economic times. They often do not pay taxes as they exempted by governments since constitutional laws identify them as a religion and not a business. The organization employs good technology to improve their service provision. The technological environment in Scientology does not refer to infrastructure but rather a transformation into a new organization as developed by Hubbard. The organization employs quality infrastructure with the use of the electrometer lie detector when conducting audits. Besides the internal technological factor, the Internet plays a key role when assessing the organization’s strengths. The Internet enables Scientology to have real-time interactions with its prospects and attract more possibly interested people than with traditional face-to face methods. Additionally, this increases also the organization’s self sustained marketing with celebrities that are members, serving as role models. Notwithstanding the fact that the organization is involved in numerous charitable organizations, in order to polish their public image.
