The name science is derived from the Latin word scienta for knowledge. The nominal form of the verb to know. Science can generally be defined as an integrated subject of accumulated and established information gained by experiments and observation. It is a field of study that is concerned with discovering and describing the natural and physical components of the world we live in.
Science is what we live in, it helps us to understand and shape our daily live as we interact with our environment. The question and answer process lies at the heart of knowing and doing science. It drives us to work hard and pushes us to succeed. Motivation influences our behaviour and our ability to accomplish goals. There are many different forms of motivation. Each one influences behaviour in its own unique way. No single type of motivation works for everyone. People’s personalities vary and so accordingly does the type of motivation, that is most effective at inspiring their conduct. For example in a class of 30 pupils, some pupils maybe interested in classroom subject matter and will participate fully in class discussion. Another set of pupils maybe more concerned with the social aspect of school. On the other hand their maybe another set of pupil who is more focused on athletics. While perhaps because of a learning disability or some other personal reason, that pupil might be motivated to avoid any or all activities that goes on in school. However whatever the reasons are the teacher should present her information in such a way that she caters for all the different learning abilities and motivate them at the same time so that they have fun in the science …show more content…

What teachers can do to improve the image of science is to bring to light what science has done so far by relating science to something that is of interest to the pupil.
• Act as a positive role model- if the science teacher is very boring and does not truly like science, don’t have the knowledge, isn’t passionate and enthusiastic about the subject. She will not connect to the pupil, her teaching won’t be effective. As a result of this the class will view science as a boring and difficult subject.
• Make science fun- some experts believe that science should be taught to children at an early age so that when their grown the interest and love of science won’t fade easily.
• Connects science to pupils everyday life- teachers should let pupils be aware of the fact that it is because of science , we have cell phones, tablets and computers etc which they enjoy using. They will understand how science is used in our everyday
