School Wide Behavior Plan Essay

A school-wide behavior plan can be instrumental in creating a climate that is optimal for student learning. When the expectations, rewards and consequences are made clear and consistently enforced, it provides the type of structure that allows students to be successful. School-wide behavioral plans tend to encourage positive behavior by highlighting rewards instead of taking a punitive approach. School-wide behavior plans focus on a few key areas that come together to create a positive educational experience. A school-wide behavior support plan provides support for teachers in their classroom by providing a model for classroom rules, and procedures.

Being in class and on time, then preforming to the best of your ability is something that every educator expects from their students. So the reward for this positive behavior is tied together in the exam policy. This policy allows students with an A to miss 4 days of class before having to take the midterm and end of the year exams. A student with a B may miss 3 days of class, a C average can miss 2 days of class. Anyone below a C average must take the exams, this policy encourages students to be in class and to perform up to their ability. Another school-wide classroom management policy is prohibiting cell phone use during class. Cell phones create a distraction, not only for the student using the cell phone, but the other students and the educator. Another school-wide behavior management policy is no book bags are allowed in classrooms. This is a safety issue since it could allow students to conceal a weapon.
