Why We Should Wear School Uniform

As a parent of a four year old child, I disagree with the uniform policy. My reason for disagreeing is because I feel as though children should be allowed to express their individuality which uniforms don’t really allow. Also, uniforms could be costly for parents who are on a budget. Finally, school uniforms do not prevent bullying as some advocates suggest.
First, childhood is about not only learning life lessons, but also discovering who you are and how you want to be in the world. Uniforms are totally against this. Rather than teaching individuality, school uniforms teach conformity and mediocrity. If everyone is wearing the same thing, how do young students express themselves other than in the grades they get? While grades are important, socializing young people is equally important therefore I believe students should be able to wear regular clothes to school as long as there’s no abusive images, words, or any form of negativity. For example, if a parent buys only--or can only afford--one pair of uniform pants, their child is likely to be wearing rags by the end of the school year. For those who can’t afford to buy another pair of uniform pants, it can be very embarrassing, especially for the child who has to wear torn and raggedy clothes to school. This would definitely be a hurdle to learning in school because the child will always be self-conscious about their uniform. For parents who can afford to buy more uniform pants, it is still an unnecessary burden to be shelling out more money every time their child rips a hole in their pants which can happen a lot with boys. Some people say patch up the pants, but the truth is children today don’t want to go to school with patches on their clothes. We live in much different times
