Have you ever wondered what some people may experience every day, what may affect them from day to day? Today, I will teach about Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the brain and can have a harsh effect on a person both in and out. About 2.4 million Americans have Schizophrenia. The reason I researched this topic was to learn more about this sort of thing, as I’m interested in ways I can help people going through this or something similar. This could also serve to assist you in figuring out any issues someone is having and assist them. One known as positive, which takes over a person’s mind, makes them more psychotic. Negative, where the more depressed and outlandish feelings come from. And cognitive, which effects the brain to a great degree. Positive effects are uncommon in the usual healthy persons, but most often people with these symptoms “Lose touch with reality.” Symptoms can include the following: Delusions, Hallucinations, and their normal way of thinking, or otherwise known as a thought disorder. Hallucinations are the most common and well known symptoms of schizophrenia (“Schizophrenia” Psychology Today) Negative cane come in 4 different symptoms, these are most often referred to as abnormal behavior, Difficulty concentrating, starting new things, less speaking, and reduced expressions of emotion. Cognitive truly affects the brain big time, it’s the main result in the difficulty concentrating, but it can affect someone’s memory and how well they execute commands their brain sends out. (“Schizophrenia” National Institute of Mental Health) In Teenagers, Schizophrenia can affect them worse, worsening their performance in school, motivation, sleeping, and have them withdraw from friends and/or family. Untouched, Schizophrenia can lead to depression, and if gone any further, can lead to a person having suicidal thoughts, self-injury, anxiety disorders, and more. (“Schizophrenia” Mayo Clinic) Schizophrenia is caused most often by being passed genetically, if recent family has all had schizophrenia then you would be at high risk of it taking hold and never loosening its grasp. Schizophrenia can be cause by the intake of drugs while still a teen or young adult, as it can affect your brain to a greater degree during that time.an important note is that suicide is somewhat common among people with schizophrenia at a rate of 5-6 percent, and upwards of 20 percent of people with it attempt. Something common in Schizophrenic people is drug abuse, as a way to get away from all the troubles, but it may lead to more issues than before. (“Schizophrenia” Psychology Today) Most of the cognitive symptoms can leave to life being harder than it is, forgetting things more often, not being able to pay as close attention, and other things, paired with the other symptoms, mostly the positive ones, especially the hallucinations, if not dealt with, can prove a big threat to everyday life.
