This documentary, Voices (Hara, Tsai, 2014), an award-winning documentary film that was published in regards to schizophrenia. The documentary focused on three individuals who suffered schizophrenia. The documentary shows the emotional journeys of these three individuals before and after the onset of their mental illness. The first individual, Sharon a Vietnamese female, who suffered from schizophrenia. She began to hear voices and show signs of paranoia and depression when she moved to California. Sharon had a good family support that stood with her in her struggle with schizophrenia. This documentary starts with a brief introduction of what is going to be demonstrated. This documentary depict patient with schizophrenia, researchers, and psychologist. The documentary start with a description of schizophrenia from clinicians’ and patient perspectives. The first person that was introduced is Steve. Steve as a child he was very bright. He attended the best schools and graduated from MIT, but at age 21 he had his first hospitalization followed since then to total 76 hospitalizations. He described his schizophrenia as if everybody can hear his thoughts, his mind and it is frankly very disturbing. It follows by a comparing between a healthy brain and brain of patient of schizophrenia; comparing how physiologically the two are different and what neurotransmitters are involved in this disorder. The documentary then introduced Stephen and Shawn, two identical twin. Shawn has schizophrenia while Steven is not. The mother of the twin had schizophrenia as well. They both did everything together from sports to experimenting of the drug. Shawn had attended art school and was very successful where he made drawing that won awards. Both twins are enrolled in a program that follow identical twins with schizophrenia all over the world. They go once a year to get brain imaging and follow up with the research team.
