Saw is a American horror film directed by James Wan. The film is about a killer who calls himself the Jigsaw. He kills and/or “teaches” his victims to respect life. He watches his victims and then abducts them when learning their problems in life. Amanda Yong is the only survivor of the Jigsaw's games, who believes that her experience has made her a better person. During her torture, when she was playing the Jigsaw's games, she had some sort of a bear trap connected to her mouth and was also tied to a chair. The Jigsaw instructed her to cut her cellmates stomach in order to retrieve a key which would unlock that contraption on her mouth. She cut his stomach and found the key just in time before the contraption on her mouth activated. She was congratulated by the Jigsaw and he said that she learned to respect life. Adam wakes up in a full bathtub and when he gets out of there he finds out that he is chained to a pipe in a large old bathroom. Gordon was chained up across the room to another pipe. In the center of the room lied a corpse, holding a pistol and a recorder. Not knowing what to do, Adam managed to get his hands on the recorder in hopes that it will tell them why are they located in an old bathroom chained to pipes. When Adam got his hands on the recorder, Gordon was instructed to kill Adam by six o'clock or his wife and daughter will die. Using a clue from the tape, Adam was able to find two handsaws, but unfortunately they were not meant to cut the chains. Instead they were meant to be used on their feats. During the Talladega 500, Cal Naughton Jr., Ricky Bobby's former best friend, pulled ahead of Ricky, allowing him to slingshot around his car and pass Jean Girard. Though Cal and Girard were teammates at Dennit Racing, Cal disregarded this and jeopardized his team's success to aid Ricky in the movie Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. This moment was crucial to Ricky, he having fallen from grace, going from NASCAR's top driver to being let go by Dennit Racing. The love Cal exhibited was a selfless form of love that was centered entirely around Ricky's happiness, not his own. Because of this selflessness, Cal compromised his own agenda, winning for Dennit, and disregarded personal consequence in hopes that Ricky would win the race. If you truly love someone as Cal loved Ricky, you must sometimes compromise your own interests for their benefit.
The movie Dope, written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, follows the story of Malcolm through his senior year of high school in the Inglewood California. He lives in a poor neighborhood, with only his mom, yet he still strives for greatness. He has a couple of friends, and they all love 90’s hip hop culture. They try to do their best to stay out of trouble and away from bullies. Malcolm sees a girl he likes and ends up following her to a drug dealer’s birthday party. When the cops bust the birthday party, he unknowingly goes home with all the drugs and the gun that the drug dealer owns. This sets off a wild chain reaction, as he now has to sell these drugs to payoff the supplier, who happens to be the Harvard Alumni that Malcolm’s needs approval

The setting is decades into the future and the world has reached a post-apocalyptic state. Australia has become a wasteland ruled by tyrants and war bosses. Gas is the pinnacle of all resources and is fought over constantly. Max Rockatansky, former police officer, has become a loner in the wasteland and searches for a reason to live after what he has gone through. Throughout the 4 movies of the Mad Max franchise, we observe Max transitioning through several kinds of pain and obstacles. In the first movie, police officer Max takes care of the motorcycle gang who murdered his family and a plethora of others. The “Dream Factory” is described as the psychological intersection of the phantasy (dream) and reality (factory). Films represent this combination of the forces of society by posing the difference between phantasy and reality. In the film, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), after a nasty break up, Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) has her memory erased of boyfriend Joel Barish (Jim Carrey). After learning of Clementine’s actions, Joel has the same procedure performed at the seemingly low scale medical company, Lacuna. The name Lacuna also means a gap or a missing part, and both Clementine and Joel wish to eliminate each other from their memories. Writer Charlie Kaufman and director Michel Gondry have created a film that exemplifies the human desire to escape reality into phantasy, only to find themselves eternally trapped in their own realities; this showcases the inescapable history through the3 conscious and subconscious according to Lacanian and Althusserian theories.

The film aggressively attacks the food industry, advertising, and the government who, it claims, all contribute to the U.S. sugar-dependent, obesity problem. The film sets out to prove the government, and food industry is knowingly causing an increase in the amount of obese children. Nicholas Hytner 's adaptation of Arthur Miller 's The Crucible provides an interesting look into the life of the Puritans. The Crucible follows the small town of Salem as they are engulfed in the mass hysteria of witchcraft. A group of young girls is caught dancing in the woods, and thus fearing punishment claim that they were possessed by the devil. Soon the accusations run wild which resulted in the arrest of two-hundred peoples, and the execution of twenty. Today the film is regarded as an allegory for the McCarthy hearings, though it also provides an intimate look into the closed societies of colonial America. The film displays some of the themes presented in Scupins book Anthropology of Religion. Hytner’s work has become an excellent contemporary depiction of the leviathan-like power the Puritan Church had over the community, and their ability to rule through fear. Furthermore, Salam was a small, isolated town and was not exposed to outside ideas, this coupled with the Church 's power worked to demonize any outside forces. The film also depicts women 's relationship with witchcraft, and how accusations were used by the patriarchy to maintain their power over women, and how the young girls were able to gain power and influence through the act of accusation.
In the documentary “Fed Up,” sugar is responsible for Americas rising obesity rate, which is happening even with the great stress that is set on exercise and portion control for those who are overweight. Fed Up is a film directed by Stephanie Soechtig, with Executive Producers Katie Couric and Laurie David. The filmmaker’s intent is mainly to inform people of the dangers of too much sugar, but it also talks about the fat’s in our diets and the food corporation shadiness. The filmmaker wants to educate the country on the effects of a poor diet and to open eyes to the obesity catastrophe in the United States. The main debate used is that sugar is the direct matter of obesity. Overall, I don’t believe the filmmaker’s debate was successful.
Welcome to the year 2019. In a futuristic world the Tyrell Corporation has given life to replicants, robots that are genetically programmed to be identical to humans. Blade Runner was released in 1982, and was directed by Ridley Scott, who is also well known for directing Alien in 1979. The science fiction thriller stars Harrison Ford and Sean Young. The film was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction. Blade Runner is a 1982 neo-noir that exemplifies strong storytelling and cinematic techniques. Today, a considerable amount of Blade Runner’s success has been because of its production design, portraying a modified future, and being a dominant film in the neo-noir genre. Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, the protagonist of the film. Deckard is a morally unstable retired bounty hunter, also known as “Blade Runner” who hunts illegal replicants. Rachael is an experiment by the Tyrell Corporation to create a more realistic replicant by constructing fake memories to provide a base for emotional responses. Due to the superior artificial replicants being both physically and mentally better than humans the government has calculated they are an insecurity to society. In the year 2019, replicants are illegal and do not have the freedom enjoyed by humans. The specialized “Blade Runner” police unit was brought into being to accurately identify and “retire” or kill replicants.
District 9 is a film that takes us into a realm of a different world from the one that we know now. It combines extraterrestrial life with immense science fiction to illustrate a story we could only imagine to ever actually occur. Although it was created for entertainment purposes, the motion picture can be compared to many different types of individuals and situations. District 9 displays many underlying concepts throughout the movie about racism, prejudice and discrimination. While studying and analyzing the plot and characters, these concepts became more translucent to me, the viewer. This paper will discuss the treatment of District 9 residents and equate their treatment to people with disabilities.

Nightcrawler is a crime thriller film about a man named Louis, who takes an interest in capturing crime scene footage. His interest is first piqued when he stops on the side of the road to observe police rescuing a woman from an automobile wreckage. A man with a professional video camera runs by and captures up-close footage. Upon inquiry, Louis discovers that this man sells this graphic footage to news stations. After picking up a camcorder and police scanner, Louis decides to try this out for himself. He ends up becoming quite successful at this occupation known as nightcrawling. However, at a certain point in his path to success, Louis takes a dark and twisted turn; going from shooting crimes to committing them.
Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” presents the audience a twisted tale of a man named Jack Torrance and his wife Wendy and son Danny, who spend a few winter months in isolation as caretakers of the Overlook hotel. This is no typical horror movie. Viewers are slowly lead though a slow film journey following the Torrance family in their moments of horror and insanity with help from bizarre events connected to the haunted Overlook Hotel.
Almost everyone has a favorite genre of film, but how everyone defines their favorite genre can differ greatly. Horror is one of the genres where its definition can be perceived differently by many people. Like all other genres, horror does have rules and traditions that must be included in order for a film to be considered a horror film. These rules and traditions include a protagonist, an antagonist, an escape or escape attempt of some sort, and very influential audio and visual effects.
